The Influence Of Community Construction Upon The Ethnic Relationship In The City Of Urumqi

National unity is the lifeline of all ethnical groups and also the cornerstone ofsocial development and progress in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Urumqi, thecapital of Xinjiang, has a large population with diverse ethnical groups and sensitiveethnic relationship. Its national relationship has great and direct impact on the socialstability and national unity of Xinjiang and all over China. The community is thesmallest primary administrative organization in urban and rural China, which plays anirreplaceable role in the national unity and social stability. The communities inUrumqi are almost multi-ethnic communities. And the community work has afar-reaching influence on the ethnical relationship of its own district and the wholeUrumqi.On the basis of the previous academic theories and research achievements, thispaper will analyze the role of the community construction in the ethnical relationshipof Urumqi, and put forward some countermeasures and suggestions for promoting theharmonious development in the multi-ethnic Urumqi.The paper is categorized into five parts. Firstly, it will give a clear definition aboutthe concepts of national relations, community and community construction, and it willbriefly review the related research made by the domestic and overseas scholars.Secondly, it will introduce the general information of Urumqi, focusing on itsgeographical and administrative districts, history and population. Thirdly, the paperwill probe the role of the community construction in the ethnical relationship inUrumqi multi-ethnic districts. Finally, on the analysis of the influence between themulti-ethnic community construction and ethnic relationship, it proposes sometentative suggestions and countermeasures for propelling the harmoniousdevelopment of ethnical relationship in multi-ethnic areas.
