The Image Of Chinese Two-character Words Reading Erp Research

Mirror reading is reading from the opposite direction of normal reading and writing. The phenomenon of mirror reading begins in one’s childhood and not disappears until 8. It can be obtained through learning and practice. The process that an adult can reacquisition the ability of mirror reading and the distinction between normal reading and mirror reading are the points people care about. In this research we want to talk about the psychological process of mirror reading useing Chinese compound words as the experimental material. The first experiment mainly talks about if there are character recognition and mental rotation process in the mirror reading. In this experiment, the participants are required to make biotic and abiotic judgement when the normal or mirror characters appear. We studied five ERP components,and compared the difference of normal and mirror characters of N1、P2、N2、N400、P300. The result is that compared with normal characters, mirror characters have different phenomenons. The amplitude of N2、N400 is higher, P2 is lower, and P300 is more negative; The latency of P300 prolongs. Then, in reading mirror Chinese compound words, there are two processes of character recognition and mental rotation process, and the difference between normal and mirror reading start from the earlier time(show as P2),prior to N2.Chinese compound words are different from monosyllabic, there is a competition between holistic processing and feature-based porcesing in the process of mental rotation in mirror reading.Experiment 2 is mainly to probe the processing style of mental rotation. Phrases are exhibited in the form of normal、reverse mirror and normal mirror, paticipents are told to judge the truth of Chinese characters. The result is that the response time to reverse mirror characters is the longest and for normal is the shortest. The differences are significant. This results support the point of view that mental rotation in the process of reading mirror Chinese compound words is feature-based processing.This research has studied the psychological process of reading mirror Chinese compound words completely.
