This study aims to explore the quality of the effective leader.It could provide suggestions for leaders and help them improving. It also provides theoretical basis for selecting and training.This study is divided into three sections.①The leader traits questionnaire is revised. Walter Schmidt (2002) developed the leadership of questionnaire. I translate it to use in China by translation-back, then292leaders in the enterprises responded the questionnaire. According to the results of project analysis, reliability analysis and exploratory factor analysis, I delete or modify some items. I use the revised the questionnaire to measure210leaders. I adopt the verification factor analysis to validate structure of the questionnaire. Finally, The leader traits questionnaire is reliable and valid.②The second study discusses the character of the effective leaders in enterprises. I measure210leaders in work performance questionnaires in order to choose the effective leaders from them. I find out the characteristics differences between the effective and inefficient leaders. I also study the influence of organizational nature and speed of promotion.③The third Study discusses that the leaders who staffs expect have characteristics. I develops employees expect questionnaire in base on the structure of leader trait questionnaire.144staffs respond it. I compare the employees expected and the characters of the current leaders and find out differences. Finally, the results indicate:①The revised leader traits questionnaire has the good qualities,high reliability and validity②Effective leaders tend to high forcefulness, high self-assertion, high self-confidence, high composure, high irritability③Leaders who get different promotion opportunities demonstrated different characteristics. The leaders of the quick promotion tend to low self-assertion and low irritability.④Different organization nature will affect characteristics tendency what leaders expressed.⑤Effective leader does not necessarily be promoted quickly ⑥Self-assertion and irritability have a favorable side and a bad side. The leader should learn to grasp the scale in different work environment adjustment.⑦Employees in enterprises expect leader to improve in self-assertion, composure, openness to contact, aggressive extroversion, proneness to conflict, irritability and mental balance.⑧Employees expect effective leader to improve in aggressive extroversion, proneness to conflict irritability.
