Both She-yon Zhen Fo(Needling Techniques) and Zhi-shanYi An (Medical records) are two significant acupuncture classics of Korean’s medical society. She-Yan Zhen-fa is a book of acupuncture prescriptions, while Zhi-ShanYi An is a record of clinical cases. The study of both books is important to understand this school of acupuncture as both are complementary to each other. Hence, this paper aims to discover this school of theory and clinical patterns through literature research. The ideas of Zheng-ge and Sheng-ge were not mentioned in She-yanZhen Fa. However, through research, Zheng-ge and Sheng-ge are found to be an overview of acupoints prescriptions of She-yan Zhen Fa. This reflects a certain clinical pattern in the choice of acupoints prescriptions. This paper uses Zheng-ge and Sheng-ge as a guide to classify and organize Zhi-shan Yi An, to analyse and conclude the following:Both She-yon Zhen Fo(Needling Techniques) and Zhi-shan Yi An(Medical Records) use the five elements theory as the main theoretical guide. Clinically, both must work according to the zang-fu, meridian, five-transport points etc. theories to diagnose and treat. Under the pre-requisites of clear disease diagnosis, accurate zang-fu location and precise differentiation of the nature (deficiency and excess) of disease, according to "supplement the mother when in deficient, drain the child when in excess" and "hyperactivity causes harm; preventing its development brings order" theories, the selection of acupoints and the choice of supplement or drain can be made. At the same time, the integrative use of own-meridian supplement/drainage method and other-meridian supplement/drainage method are also important. The above-mentioned are the application of five element theory and method in She-yan Zhen Fa and Zhi-shan Yi An.The ideas of Zheng-ge and Sheng-ge were created in Zhi-shan Yi An. Not only do they represent the needling methods, they also correspond to the disease mechanism. The choice of Zheng-ge and Sheng-ge depends on the excess and deficiency of the disease mechanism. Zheng-ge corresponds to deficiency pattern or deficiency with excess pattern; while Sheng-ge corresponds to excess pattern. Clinically, meridian diagnosis and zang-fu diagnosis are both used for diagnosis and the corresponding meridian’s Zheng-ge or Sheng-ge are employed for treatment. In addition, there is also "external contraction follows six-fu, internal damage ensues five-zang" perspective, hence, treatment of six-fu for external pathogens and treatment of five-zang for internal damage are concluded. Also, due to the "heart and kidney should not have numbness" theory, if there happens to be symptoms of heart and kidney meridians’numbness, the interior or exterior meridians could be chosen for treatment using Zheng-ge and Sheng-ge method. Finally, according to the "left liver; right lung" perspective, the liver meridian would be treated for disease on the left while the lung meridian would be treated for disease on the right. However, Zheng-ge and Sheng-ge could not be used to understand all of She-yan Zhen Fa. For example, as mentioned in She-yan Zhen Fa,"excess liver" and "deficient spleen" could not be explained by the traditional five element theory. Hence, more research could be done to clear these doubts. This paper reveals the theoretical basis and the clinical applications’pattern of She-yan Zhen Fa using the analysis of clinical cases of Zhi-shan Yi An. This is beneficial for the promotion of She-yan Zhen Fa clinically for future references.
