Purpose:To compare the clinical effect of the acupuncture guidance law and regular acupuncture therapy for acute lumbar sprain.Methods:50cases were included according to the diagnostic standard of acute lumbar sprain in Criteria of Diagnosis and Therapeutic Effect of TCM issued by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and were divided into experimental group and control group for clinical effect observation. The experimental group received acupuncture guidance law while the control group received the standard treatment according to the principles of selecting acupuncture points in the Subject of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Therapy which was one of the national planning in higher institutions of Chinese medicine textbooks series, second edition in the new century. To test and record all the pre-treatment and post-treatment obvervational indexes. We observed the Schober Sign of the patients before and after the treatment and their RMDQ score on the first, second and third day before and after the treatment. Proper statistic methods were used to do the data analysis. Results:The basic information of the patients in two groups were comparable and there were no statistical differences between patients’ sex, age, course of disease, Schober Sing in anteflexion and postexion and the RMDQ score. The P values of pre/post-treatment VAS Score of the two groups were all below0.05, and the VAS score significantly decreased after the treatment. The P values of pre/post-treatment Schober Sign in anteflexion and postexion were all below0.05and the Schober Sign of all patients were significantly improved after the treatment. There were no statistical differences between the pre/post-treatment Schober Sign in anteflexion and postexion of the patients in both groups (P>0.05). P values of the RMDQ Score of d1after the treatment of both groups were below0.05and the RMDQ Score decreased significantly on the first day after the treatment. The RMDQ Score of experimental group on d1after treatment was better than that of the control group (p<0.001). There were no significant differences between the RMDQ Score on d2and d3before and after the treatment of both groups, p>0.05respectively. Statistical analysis of the therapeutic effectiveness:30cases were in the experimental group and after the first treatment there4cured (13.3%),11with marked effect (40%),13with effect (43.3%) and2with no-effect (6.7%). The total efficiency was96.6%. Among the20cases in the control group there were0cured (0%),2with marked effect (10%),8with effect (40%), and10with no-effect(50%) and the total efficiency was50%. The therapeutic effectiveness of experimental group was better than that of the control group. Conclusions:Both the acupuncture guidance law and standard acupuncture therapy are all effective in relieving patients’ symptoms and physical signs. However the acupuncture guidance law is more effective than standard acupuncture in treating lumbar sprain. According to the statistical analysis, the VAS Score, Schober Sign, RMDQ Score and the movement of lumbar of the patients in both groups are improved. Both therapies could alleviate the pain and the its bad influence on daily life. The VAS Score and the improvement of RMDQ Score on dl after treatment of the acupuncture guidance law are better than that of the standard acupuncture therapy. The security analysis confirms that the acupuncture guidance law enjoys high quality of security and the security rating is Grade Ⅱ.
