Objective:(1)To verify and perfect the hypothesis of’Tourette Syndrome (TD) Treatment from Heart’, which is a new perspective for TD therapy in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and to provide basic lab data for the application of Jing Xin Zhi Dongrecipe in TD children.(2)To find the potential targets through which the Jing Xin Zhi Dong recipe works in TD children according to the clinical efficacy and cytokine and neurotransmitter changes, and to explore the risk factors for the mechanism of TD pathogenesis, which is essential to clinical practice.Method:Twenty-two TD children, ranging from6to15years old, were enrolled. All children received no TCM or western medicine treatment more than6months before diagnosis. The informed consent was signed by each supervisor for children. The TCM medicine mixtures, based on Jing Xin Zhi Dong recipe, were used on TD children for6months continuously. Then Urine routine examination and liver-kidney function test were periodically detected, about a month and3months per time respectively. The symptoms were evaluated via Yale Global Tic Severity Scale Table (YGTSS) and serum was collected at the first visit and the endpoint visit of the research. The serum was stored in-80°refrigerator until the assay. Cytokines (IL-2, IL-8and IL-12), neurotransmitters (DA and5-HT), neuropeptide (SP) and NO were tested using Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay, meanwhile all the procedures were conducted with harsh quality control. Software SPSS17.0Version was used for statistical analysis.Result:(1) Twenty-two TD children were analyzed. After the YGTSS evaluation, the symptoms of all the children were relieved to some extent. Fifteen children got obvious relief and7children got partial relief. The total effective rate of Jing Xin Zhi Dong recipe on TD children was100%.(2) DA, IL-2and IL-12level in TD children’s serum decreased significantly after Jing Xin Zhi Dong recipe treatment for more than6months (P<0.05).(3)5-HT and IL-8level showed an increasing tendency while NO and SP level appeared a decreasing trend after treatment, although the statistical P value was beyond0.05marginally.Conclusion:(1)From clinical observation, Jing Xin Zhi Dong recipe showed a sound clinical efficacy for TD treatment. The hypothesis of’TD Treatment from Heart’was an essential supplemental for TD therapy, and’Heart Unease’may be an important basic mechanism for the TD pathogenesis.(2) The moleculars, including DA, IL-2and IL-12, may be potential targets through which Jing Xin Zhi Dong recipe works, as the markers level in TD children decreased significantly after Jing Xin Zhi Dong recipe treatment.
