Xu Ling Tyres For The Inheritance And Development Of Academic Thought Of Treatise On Febrile Disease

Xu Lingtai was the famous medicine theorist and clinical expert in Qing dynasty, he wrote many books during his lifetime. This thesis has expounded the fact from three respects:Xu Lingtai’s works and academic thoughts origin; inheritance and development of Zhang Zhongjing’s academic thoughts of Shanghan Lun(Treatiseon Cold Pathogenic Diseases), Xu Lingtai’s effects on later physicians.First part is mainly about research on Xu Lingtai’s works and the origin of his academic thoughts. Xu Lingtai has extensive knowledge, rich experience of clinical, outstanding opinions, and lots of books which expounding his academic thoughts. Research found that Xu Lingtai stress past more than the present, and the real reason is that he feared for the decline of ancient Saints’medical knowledge.Part two expounds the fact of Xu Lingtai inheriting and developing from Shanghan Lun. For the sake of in-depth discussions and studies about Mr Xu’s academic thoughts, this part is consist of Mr Xu’ s Classified prescriptions from Shanghan Lun, striving for prescriptions based on disease, Zhang Zhongjing’s herb-medicine, treatment based on syndrome differentiation and he’s medical records.Xu Lingtai takes the "Categorizing Formulas to Syndrome Method" to study the Shanghan Lun. It is found that Sun SiMiao started the method very beginning in Tang dynasty, and followed by Zhu Gong in Song dynasty, then Xu Lingtai brought the method into completion in Qing dynasty, and made the prescriptions of Zhang Zhongjing much easy to be used in clinical. First of all, in the respect of content, Mr Xu classified Zhongjing’s113prescriptions into12categories, chose one prescription as the prime prescription in each category first, and followed by others accordingly. Analyzing the main indications of the prime prescriptions, we can get the method of the treatment. Secondly, from the order of arrangement, Mr Xu used methods of putting similar prescriptions together and prescriptions integrating the article arrangement, and with his own clinical experiences to make appropriate modifications of the original text. Finally, in the respect of explanatory comment, Mr Xu used comments, interlinear comments and with his clinical practice to reveal the true meaning of Zhang Zhongjing syndrome differentiation. Xu Lingtai stress importance of Formula-Syndrome in Shang Han Lun Lei Fang, he tried to reveal internal links between symptoms through evolution of prescriptions. Mr Xu also suggested that Zhong Jing’s book is to correct the mistreatment:after the mistreatment, the syndrome becomes disordered, and need Treat Syndrome as it is. This paper will take Gui Zhi Tang as an example to elaborate on this point.Xu Lingtai learned widely from others strong points and finished his book the Lan Tai Gui Fan. About prescriptions of Shanghan Lun in this book, Mr. Xu classified113prescriptions according to their conditions. From the study on cold, diarrhea, abdominal pain and other diseases, it is found that this collation method expands the scope of clinical useage of Zhang Zhongjing’s prescriptions. In the Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing, Mr Xu also had brilliant exposition on Zhang Zhongjing’s herb medicines.In treatment based on syndrome differentiation respect, Xu Lingtai has attached importance to the pulse syndrome, and emphasized the four diagnostic methods. Besides, Mr Xu has paid attention to the identification of disease, disorder and syndrome. In clinical practice, he stressed the concept of three conditions and disease prevention. Mr Xu thinks the drug-decocting method is very important, because it will impact on the effect of drug treatment. By the way, Mr Xu’s method of the treatment is flexible and diverse, not only including decoction of herb medicine, but also combined with pills, powder, paste, acupuncture and other methods.At the end of second part, this thesis lists typhoid fever, sunstroke disease, humid asthma, and postpartum medical case to discuss about Mr Xu’s characteristics of syndrome differentiation and flexibility.Third part discusses the Xu Lingtai’s effects on later generations of medical, including Wang Xugao in Qing dynasty, Zuo Jiyun, and famous doctor Ren yingqiu at present age, as well as the Japan medical Professor Kitamura Tadahiro. It is necessary to say that Xu Lingtai has far-reaching influence on later generations.
