Gao Lian’s Zun Sheng Ba Jian of Ming Dynasty and Cao Ting Dong’s Lao Lao Heng Yan of Qing are the most representative masterpieces on elderly health in Traditional Chinese Medicine, which contain abundant contents and practical life nourishing methods. Researchers have been attaching great importance to their theoretical and application values. The two books introduce a lot of living appliances and emphasize the significance of health care,. It’s rare in all kinds of health books.This thesis adopts several approaches such as material data method、logical analyses and summarizing, in order to research the life nourishing value of daily life appliances mentioned in these books, investigate their origin and development, analyze the health recovery mechanism and discuss their modern application value, so as to offer some guidance for elderly people nowadays and give some clue for the development of health care equipment.The thesis consists of three parts as follows:The first part is document summary, which talks about the authors’ lives、main contents and modern research situation of Zun Sheng Ba Jian and Lao Lao Heng Yan. In this part, we can see that modern researchers generally emphasis on the health theories of these two books, while pays little attention to the life nourishing value of daily life appliances.The second part contains research and analysis on the life nourishing value of daily life appliances. I selected32daily life appliances and divided them into7categories according to the different functional attributes, which are seats、tables、beddings、 care massage instruments、help lines、incense&incense tools, costumes. Seats include ring chair, Leaning bed, tippler chair, folding stool and rolling footstool; tables include Hidden table, Leaning table, Hidden Backrest, Backrest and flying chair; beddings include bed and pillow; care massage instruments include taipingche, meirenquan and hidden back; help lines include crutch; incense&incense tools include many aromatic formulas and sleeve furnace, bed incense ball and incense utensils; costumes include daily wear of clothing, hats, shoes. Firstly, I investigated their origin and development, and introduced their basic functions. Secondly, I focused on the health recovery mechanism of these appliances and discuss their application value in the view of traditional Chinese medical science and modern medical science.The third part is the discussion part, We discuss the practical guiding significance of modern living appliances which we learn from the he traditional. First of all, it help to guide the modern elderly health. The traditional living appliances contains the "blending health in the trivialities of everyday life" theory, which inspire and guide older people to pay attention to the details of their lives, include clothing, food, shelter and with the line in all aspects of the pursuit of good health. At the same time, the idea "cultivation of nature and mind" contained in the traditional living appliances, inspire modern elderly to focus on their psychological health, and create a favorable living environment, thus contributing to the healthy development of body and mind. Secondly, the meaning of guiding for the development of health rehabilitation apparatus is significant. Massage apparatus discussed in the literature like Health Care Pillow and other rehabilitation apparatus have a unique advantage for health in the daily use. Doing deep study to the traditional apparatus will guide the development of modern health rehabilitation apparatus. Again, there are some inspirations for barrier-free design of modern elderly and elderly products market development. Documented in the literature of traditional living appliances, its value is designed to maximize the life of older persons to provide convenience and comfort, which is consistent with the concept of barrier-free design of modern elderly. Many other daily utensils their size, morphology, appearance modeling and other aspects of design is close connected with the physiological characteristics and Ergonomic principles of the elderly which will inspire the barrier-free design of the study and elderly products market development.The study is the first attempt to disclose the value of the traditional living appliances. This paper defined the concept of nourishing meaning of personal appliances, deepen the TCM nourishing concept that "the anytime and anywhere". The living utensils contain many high value health care theories, which on the one hand, help to guide the modern elderly health, on the other hand, it reveals great the importance of physical and psychological needs of older people. Society should create a good living environment, and strive to improve the quality of life and promote physical and mental health for elderly.
