In the history of Chinese ancient poems, the critique poem about calligraphy isa special art form, which originated in the Liang dynasty and reached its high pointin the Tang dynasty. The critique poem about calligraphy refers to the poems whichare about the calligraphist and their calligraphy, including poems praisingcalligraphist high skills, reflecting sense of calligraphy in a certain era, expressingpoet’s thoughts of calligraphy, and so on.The reason why the critique poem aboutcalligraphy can reach its first high point in the Tang dynasty is that the art had aclose relationship with the prosperity of the poetry、 the calligraphy and theestablishment of the imperial examination system in that era. The critique poemabout calligraphy had great values in historical data, and improved the developmentof calligraphy theory.When we researched the critique poem about calligraphy, themid-Tang was a period of time that was too important to be missed, because the Tangpoetry reached its second high point during that time. And the communicationbetween poets by the exchange of poetries、the Classical Prose Movement and theBuddhology become very popular. In the same time, a large number of critiquepoems about calligraphy had been created, and a great many of masters (famouspoetries and calligraphist) had came out. In this paper, the author expounded thefeature and the value of the critique poem about calligraphy in the mid-Tang. Theycontribute to the calligraphy data, the calligraphy theory and the research about thecalligraphy criticism as important references. Based on the critique poem aboutcalligraphy in the mid-Tang, the author tried to expound why the calligraphy canbecome one of the extreme beauty in form of art. Chinese poetry is poetry written,spoken, or chanted in the Chinese language. The various versions Chinese includeClassical Chinese, Standard Chinese, Mandarin Chinese, Yue Chinese, and otherhistorical and vernacular types. In other words, Chinese poetry refers to poetry written or spoken in the Chinese language. The various versions of Chinese poetry,as known historically and to the general knowledge of the modern world, includetwo primary types, Classical Chinese poetry and Modern Chinese poetry.Poetry has consistently been held in extremely high regard, in China, oftenincorporating wonderfully expressive folk influences filtered through the minds ofChinese literati. In Chinese culture, poetry has provided a format and a forum forboth public and private expressions of deep emotion, offering a rare vantage pointfor an audience of peers, readers, and scholars insight into the inner life of Chinesewriters across more than two millennia. The essential contrasts between the pathtaken by the Western world and that of Chinese civilization find an exemplificationin this rich Chinese poetic tradition, thus making it potentially an interesting andpleasurable object of study for Westerners.
