Xiong Cilv, a well-known Neo-Confucianist of early Qing Dynasty, who styled himself as "Oingyue","Jingxiu""Sujiu" and "Yuzai", was born in Xiaogan city, Hubei province. Xiong Cilv took the responsibility of protecting Confucius and played an important role in promoting the rejuvenation of Neo-Confucianism in the early Qing Dynasty. However, in view of various reasons, his academic status is not taken seriously, let alone a comprehensive study and evaluation of his academic activities and theories.This article is made up of four chapters, which intends to give a more comprehensive summary and analysis academic life, academic intercourse, academic writing, academic thoughts and academic status of Xiong Cilv. The first chapter briefly describes the academic life, academic intercourse, academic origins and academic works of Xiong Cilv from an overall perspective. In the second chapter, the masterpiece of Xiongcilv "Xuetong", which is a good reflection of his academic characteristics and thoughts, is analyzed from the background and the purposes, the content and the styles of the codification of "Xuetong". It deepens perceptual understanding of Xiong Cilv’s academic thoughts and lays the foundations for the next chapter. On the basis of the second chapter, academic thoughts of Xiong Cilv are analyzed and summarized in the third chapter, combined with Xiong Cilv other works, such as "Xiandaolu","Xiaxuetangzaji","Jingyizaiji’,"Zaoxiutangji","Eryu" etc., His academic thoughts are summed up as "a safeguard of Confucianism","an iterate of Confucianism","a practice of Confucianism". The fourth Chapter attends to evaluate Xiong Cilv and his academic contribution. The author reviews and draws on previous evaluations and makes a more comprehensive and objective evaluation of Xiong Cilv and his academic contributions.The author believes that Xiong Cilv can be regarded as a really Confucian, both his contributions and his drawback are "the restatement of Confucianism" and also he played an important role in ancient Chinese intellectual history.
