In recent years, with the increasing development of economic and diplomatic influences of China abroad, Chinese culture and language education is also drawing more attention of the world. Under the guidance of the government and Hanban, with the diligent performance of many schools and organizations, the Chinese language and culture education in various countries is enjoying an increasing popularity. Chinese study has made its way into the classrooms around the world. Since China and Germany established diplomatic relationship in1972, both sides have enlarged friendly cooperation in politics, economy, culture, etc. and language educations in both countries as well as cultural exchange activities are getting more active and prosperous. Now many universities and schools in Germany have opened Chinese classes and courses.The writer used to work as an exchange teacher in Germany in2009-2010, in three secondary schools of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, north-east Germany. Knowing the current situation and problems of Chinese Teaching in this area, the writer carries out a survey to analyze the situation and make some suggestions on the development of Chinese courses in this area.Firstly, the writer gives an overview of studies on constructions of Confucius Institute and Chinese Teaching in Germany.Then, the writer gives a brief description of Secondary Schools (Gymnasium) in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, a state with a small population near the Baltic Sea. The writer carries out surveys and interviews on the attitude to Chinese Teaching and study state in this area with the students, teachers, and analyzes the statistics and information from the surveys and interviews, drawing some conclusions in various aspects including learners, teachers, study materials, teaching arrangements and environments.Combined with personal experiences, the writer tries to find out the advantages and disadvantages of Chinese Teaching in this area and make some suggestions on solutions and future developments.
