Research On The Development Of Commerce In Gulangyu Island Under The Background Of Cultural Heritage Protection

Along with the rapid development of social economy and the growing demandsabout tourism and leisure, urban scenic spots attract a large number of tourists with itsunique human landscape and natural landscape. Taking Gulangyu Island as anexample, the number of tourists visiting Gulangyu Island is beyond the maximumcapacity of scenic spots in recent years. Nowadays, the Gulangyu island is preparingto apply for the World Cultural Heritage. The island economy has developed rapidlywith the increasing number of tourists. Many types of shops are gathered in the island,which even has a trend of proliferation. As a result, Gulangyu Island has become abustling bazaar. These commercialization and urbanization tread bring great damageto the natural environment and historical cultural protection. Therefore, in thebackground of applying for the World Cultural Heritage, how to balance commercialdevelopment and cultural heritage protection on Gulangyu Island is the subject thatthis thesis pays attention to.Firstly, this thesis completely explains the principle, the theory and the methodof the cultural heritage protection, and then summarizes the characters about theworld heritage sites commerce, which has high protection，cultural requirements.Secondly, this thesis sums up five stages of commercial development course aboutGulangyu Island, which are initial, prosperous, steady, out-of-order, restraining.Again, this thesis analyses the current situation about the commercial development ofGulangyu Island, particularly on the statistics of street shops’ function; investigationon commercial industry; investigation on commercial space distribution, investigationon commercial space; investigation the impact about the commercial activities andliving environmental.Finally, based on the analysis for the impetus mechanism about the commercialdevelopment of Gulangyu Island, this thesis proposes a correct and reasonableprotecting conception about the commercial development of Gulangyu Island, andproposes five aspects strategies, such as the correction on values, prior system,planning and regulating, standardize guidance, and social care; in order to provide areference for today’s environmental renovation, and for other historic towns.
