As a national5A-class tourist area and national scenic area, Gulang Islandpossesses a profound reputation and popularity in the domestic and even in the world.However, with the accelerated pace of development of tourism in Gulang Island andcommercialization process forward, Gulang Island cultural inheritance is facing aserious crisis: noise instead of a quiet, vulgar squeezed elegant and false damaged theinnocence, savage mockery of civilization. At the same time, the gradual deteriorationof the living conditions of Gulang Island, resulted in a large number of indigenouspeople to move out. The governance on Gulang Island chaos has become the focus ofpublic and media, which is urban public management problem, also a sign to measurethe local officials’ cultural literacy and the administration concept.This paper will discuss the formation process of the Gulang Island culture and itsinheritance mechanism, and analyze the crisis and root of Gulang Island culturalinheritance. Based on that, it will put forward three ways to solve the crisis, and makethe evaluation and selection of these pathways.The culture of Gulang Island is the system of values, code of conduct and lifestyle, as well as the related garden architecture, public facilities, etc., which is formedin the long-term development. Residents who are the main body create and inherit theculture of Gulang Island. Without them, Gulang Island culture inheritance would beceased, and there would be no viable existence as an organic and integrated culture ofGulang Island.Low levels of tourism deployment, as well as the community environmentaldeterioration, are the direct causes of the crisis of cultural inheritance. Nevertheless,the inadequate governance is the underlying cause. In order to resolve the crisis ofcultural inheritance, we must creatively transform the way of public administration,and properly handle the relationship between the human community and the touristattractions. We have to sincerely respect the dominant position of the residents,sustain the development of Gulang Island culture, and procuce the conditions for thedevelopment of Gulang Island community and culture, to boost up Gulang Island’s civilization in new era.
