A Study On Chinese-English Translation Of Wushu Terms Present Situation And The Countermeasures

Wushu is profound and has long history. With continuallyexpanding and exchanging of culture between Chinese and Western sports in recentyears, Wushu as the traditional sports of Chinese characteristics is increasinglyimportant during exchange between China and the world. Wushu English translationterm, as the official and civil terms with the most wide spreading and used in currentinternational promotion of Wushu, play irreplaceable role with implementing themulti-channel, and doing a full range of Wushu, international promotion of Wushufor foreign exchange.This paper attempts to standing in the international promotion point of view, to"domestic commonly Wushu Chinese-English translation terms" for research object. The mainmethods used in this paper are literature, surveys, interviews.We get the followingconclusions through this research:(1) With continually expanding and exchanging ofWushu development, Wushu Chinese-English translation terms increasingly rich,80%ofterms exists a translation of multi-word,reflected Chinese-English translation terms, butexchanging in the used which species British translation both can convey its terms ofculture connotation and can let Westerners better to understanding (2) more word atranslation phenomenon let readers is difficult to distinction, even will producedmisunderstanding (3)verbatim died translation, hard translation, differencestranslation, phenomenon, disregarding specific conditions English has vocabulary ofChinese type British translation, hinder has Wushu internationalization promotion (4)Wushu Chinese-English translation terms take the words too literally phenomenon, led toculture blank and missing, effect Wushu external spread by to convey of cultureinformation (5)transliteration phenomenon General, have conventional transliterationof English translation of Wushu terms are still used, is not conducive to advancingthe process of internationalization of Wushu. Out its status of main causes is Wushuterms no unified of dictionary, management does not specification; early engaged inWushu internationalization promotion crowd for "outside sent member, sportscollege graduates, sports lovers”, these people most lack bilingual ability, lack on Wushu and the translation theory knowledge of understanding; growth in differentculture background of people on same concept understanding of deviation; translatorneeded has Wushu professional theory, and between English and Chinese translationtheory, and West culture theory related knowledge, only in these ways can WushuChinese-English translation terms to ease translation.Therefore, against the status quo and the reasons for Wushu English translationof terminology existing, combined with the knowledge of the currently availableEnglish-Chinese translation studies to propose a solution:(1) follow the principle ofthe Wushu English Translation, the principle of specialization is the first to beaffected, without losing the principle of nationalizations, and making the principle ofbilingualism as a starting point, standardization as the finally goal, promoting theprocess of internationalization of Wushu.(2) applying the appropriate translationmethods, the word translated to find the best English translation, the translation ofmulti-word once needing "the original translation and interpretative translation",taking the words too literally, or Chinese-style translation requires the use of acomprehensive translation, generally needing appropriate transliteration (3) trainspecialized personnel of Wushu in English translation, and taking advantage of eachsports institutions and the translation professional of comprehensive colleges to setup English courses in Wushu, culture the international Wushu talent who not onlyunderstands Wushu but also understands English, not only proficient in the theory ofWushu but understands the Western culture, form a more authoritative team ofWushu translation (4) compile the dictionary in Wushu terminology,establish thesystem of Wushu term research and standardization bodies, to provide a referencestandard for the translation of Wushu term (5) publish the "Chinese-English andEnglish-Chinese Wushu Dictionary" which keeps pace with the times,2007versionof Wushu bilingual dictionaries has played a certain role for the InternationalDevelopment, but amendment of the dictionary has relatively lagged the Wushudevelopment (6) with the China’s foreign cultural communication platform such asConfucius Institute, Chinese learning classes at home and abroad,open a Wushubilingual classes, promote the terminology of Wushu English translation, carry outinvestigation by continuing to spread and promote, judge, summary and give the standard term of Chinese-English Translation of Wushu, at the same time give thesupport of the theory and practice for the publication of Chinese-English andEnglish-Chinese Wushu Dictionary ".(7)play a role of professional website, kungfufilm and television and the Wushu star, and promote the standard English translationterminology of the Wushu.(8)establish standardized research institutions and expertmember of Wushu English-Chinese Translation,making English Translationresearch of the Wushu in long-term dialogue, exchanges,understanding,harmonyand promotion become gradual standardization.
