With the fast development of the tourist industry in China, there is anurgent need for the tourist personnel who are skilled in tourism andfluent in English. The five-year higher vocational schools play a veryimportant role in fostering such talents. There is no doubt that thefive-year higher vocational schools must attach great importance tothe English communicative competence of their students. Based on theEnglish curriculum design of tourism management in five-year highervocational schools, this thesis tries to explore the new ways of thecurriculum reform and integrate English teaching with tourism teachingin order to make the English teaching of the students majoring in tourismmanagement more feasible and effective.The thesis is divided into sixchapters. As the introduction, the first chapter is about the purpose andsignificance of the study, the research methods and the definitions ofthe key concepts. The second and third chapter expounds thetheoretical basis of the research and reviews the research at home andabroad, focusing on higher vocational curriculum theories and thedomestic and foreign higher vocational curriculum research. The fourthchapter analyzes the factors which restrict the English curriculum designof tourism management in five-year higher vocational schools, andtakes tourism management of the five-year system at Wuxi HigherVocational School of Tourism and Commerce as an example. Thefactors include the teaching conditions, the ideas of the curriculumdesign and the demand for talents with the foreign language ability,etc. The fifth chapter studies the status quo of the English curriculumdesign of tourism management in the five-year vocational school. Itdeals with English teaching characteristics in different grades, thesituation of curriculum design and the reason for the design. In the sixthchapter, the author offers a number of proposals and countermeasures for the English curriculum design of tourismmanagement in five-year higher vocational school. The last chapter isthe conclusion of the whole thesis.
