DuoFu Buddhist Temple is the sixth set key historical sites under state protection made public by the Council, in which the existed mural paintings of Ming Dynasty in DaXiong Palace are important artistic remains of ancient temple mural paintings in ShanXi province that have a high artistic value and historical value. These mural paintings regard as a theme, whereas they reflect the prevailing social conditions truly and objectively, as well as show subtle fusion of Confucianism and Taoism of the Buddhist culture and Chinese traditional culture in another aspect, that is, the combination of religious belief and earthly spirit.According to the current interrelated documents and materials, we find the study on the mural paintings of DuoFu Buddhist Temple only belong to the weak aspect, even its contents and style are limited to fragments of description.This paper is considering the mural paintings of DuoFu Buddhist Temple as study subjects, making field survey in order to collect image data and do in-depth research with methods of archeology, iconography and philology so that the trend and forming cause of their artistic styles can be understood, which have certain academic significance.Contents of the paper:1. Arranging and describing image data of the mural paintings;2. Studying shapes, molding, colors and aesthetic features from image description of the mural paintings,3. Searching new features of temple mural paintings of Ming Dynasty that are reflected from the forms of murals, artistic styles and picture materials of the ones in DuoFu Buddhist Temple through the process of dating back origin of Buddha murals.
