Academic Tendency Of The Yuewei Hermitage Note

The Yuewei Hermitage Note is a collection of literary sketches written in classical Chinese by Ji Yun in the Qing Dynasty. Its Creative ideas and Ideological content was deeply effected by the the scholars in the Qianlong and Jiaqing period. Based on double checking of academic history and the fiction history, this paper is the textology trying to find the link between this note and the textual research in this period, discussing the academic tendency of the Yuewei Hermitage Note.Yuewei Hermitage Note adduces a great deal of books and records in all the four parts, which demonstrate the profound academic foundation of Ji Yun. In the part of Jing, it mainly focuses on the academic criticism of Confucian Classics and Theory of Rite; The part of Shi lays on textual criticism of facts. In the part of Zi, it emphasize on the fabrication of novel. In the part of Ji, it investigates the literary thought of poems and articles. Yuewei Hermitage Note extended the method of sinological textual research, in which it carried out’Textual Criticism of Verification’ and’ Examining the Mirror Source and Course’in profusion. Compared with the other novels in the same period, the historical value of the Yuewei Hermitage Note was largely increased by the introduce of textology which indicate the Ji Yun’s Acqierement on this note. Based on the quotation and textual criticism, Ji Yun express his own academic idea and literary thought in, exploring the Han-Song Debate, Discussing of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism and Criterion of Academic and Literary Tradition, sufficiently exhibiting his academic capability in this note.Above all, Ji Yun create this note in a scholar’s point of view, which make the Yuewei Hermitage Note a typical represent of academic fiction in the Qianlong and Jiaqing period.
