This dissertation, based on what have been done on the subject,intends to makea more comprehensive classification of“zai”-sentence from the point of the view of“zai”-meaning. We have make a comparative study between English and Chineseabout“zai”-sentence, so that we can found the similarity and differences, as well asthe reasons, which can be used in teaching Chinese for the foreigners.This dissertation consists of five parts.Chapter one: the significance of the subject“zai”-sentence, the methods of theresearch and the range of the study. Besides, it also shows the recourses of theillustrated sentences and explains the signs used in this dissertation.Chapter two: description of the studies on“zai”-sentences. We review thehistory and the current states of prep“zai”, summarizing the achievements of thepast. From our view of the point, though the past research gained a lot, it is notenough. There are many problems such as comparative study between English andChinese.Chapter three: we divided the“zai”-sentences into three types according to themeaning of“zai”occurred in the sentences. Then, we shows the reasons for thedifferences in English and Chinese about the different places.Chapter four: some aspects we must notice in teaching Chinese for foreigners.On the basis of investigating adverbial modifier in English, we make a comparativestudy about the places of adverbial modifier in English and Chinese. We also point outthe negative transfer problems in learning Chinese and summarize the reasons.Chapter five: we summarize the dissertation, and point out the themes whichshould be studied further in the future.
