The Research Of Social Responsibility Of Documentary In China

Although there is no exact identity on the definition of documentary, but one thingto confirm is that from the basic meaning of the documentary, documentary alwaysconcerns about our real environment. As the outcome of the first documentary " Nanookof the North", social responsibility has been accompanied by documentary’s each stageof development.The documentary is one form of mass communication, and it is of some of themass communication functions. In the book "social communication and structure",political scholar Harold, the founder of the American modern communication American,pointed out the mass media has three aspects of social functions, that is, monitorenvironment, contact the society and transfer culture. Later, American sociologistKnight developed this idea and put forward the fourth functions-media entertainmentfunction. The documentary in American movie term assembly was defined as"documentary is a kind of fiction film, and it has a compelling theme or ideas, but it isbased on a real life, and use the editing and sound to promote the development of theidea."At present, foreign documentary creation is at the stage of diversification. Aboutthe theme, in addition to the common cultural history subject outside, the topicsabout the environmental protection, political, war, economic and other social problemsare very hot. However, because some special reasons and historical cultural factors inChina, there was one said that trying to escape the mainstream discourse distance, usingyour own voice to concern the life, which are the documentary. These people can reallypoint at the scene that was ignored by the mainstream media, on the other hand,it isalso a kind of avoiding the mainstream discourse and the social issues.Of course, the social responsibility of the documentary is undoubtedly about thesocial issues. Comparing with domestic documentary, Japan documentary "streamChina" which is about Chinese social problem of the documentary record anddescription seems to be more radically and detailed. How to enhance China’sdocumentary social responsibility consciousness? It cannot be resolved one or twoarticles.The main goal of this paper is to classify the development of China’s documentaryin different period, and to explore the social responsibility of contemporary Chinese documentary, which lack of representation. By connecting to the foreign documentary,environmental protection documentary, etc, this thesis will explore how to strengthenChinese documentary’s social responsibility, and how to let producers of Chinesedocumentary more focus on the social reality of China.
