Objective: To discuss the relationship between red cell distribution width and theseverity of coronary artery disease, and to evaluate whether red cell distribution width isan independent risk factor of coronary heart disease or not.Methods:334cases with coronary angiography hospitalized in the third people’shospital of yunnan province from July,2011to December,2012were collected. Themedical of age, gender, smoking,laboratory results of red cell distribution width(RDW)、uric acid(UA)、 high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)、low densitylipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)、 total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride(TG)、 fastingplasma glucose(FPG) and clinical indicators of coronary lesion severity was recorded.According to the results of coronary angiography,334cases were divided into coronaryheart disease(CHD) group (209cases) and control group(125cases).Then compared thedifference of the clinical indicator between the two groups. CHD group was dividedinto single-vessel, double-vessel and multiple-vessel subgroup according to the count ofvascular lesion, respectively. According to Gensini score, to evaluate correlationbetween red cell distribution width and coronary artery lesion severity. With binarylogistic regression analysis to CHD, to evaluate whether RDW is an independent riskfactor of CHD or not.Results:1、 RDW level in CHD group was no significant than controlgroup(13.51±1.19%vs13.33±1.04%)(P>0.05). 2、The level of RDW was respectively13.38±1.12%、13.68±1.31%、13.51±1.16%insingle-vessel, double-vessel and multiple-vessel subgroup. And the difference was notsignificant(P>0.05).3、The level of RDW was respectively13.62±1.25%、13.49±1.12%in high integrationof Gensini and low integration of Gensini group. The difference was significantly,P<0.01.4、With binary logistic regression analysis to CHD, gender, age, smoking, fastingplasma glucose can be taken as an independent risk factor of CHD, HDL-C with CHDwas negative correlation(P<0.05)and RDW can not taken as an independent risk factorof CHD.Conclusions: The correlation between RDW and coronary artery lesion counts wasnot significant in CHD. But there was significant difference with Gensini score. It maybe as an indirect indicator to evaluate the severity of coronary artery disease.
