Objective: To estimate the short and medium-term effect of MASTTMQUADRANTTMexpanding minimally invasive tube and traditional opensurgery in the treatment of lumbar spondylolisthesis and comparethe advantages and disadvantages between the two techniques. Methods: Sixty-one cases operated in spine surgery department ofRenming Hospital of Wuhan University were analyzed.Twenty-fivecases were operated by MASTTMQUADRANTTMexpanding minimally invasivetube system and the rest thirty-six cases treated by the traditionalopen surgery. The blood loss, length of cut, operating time, postoperative bedrid time and X-rayed times during theperioperation of the two groups were recorded,as well as the VASand ODI scores before the operations by the same doctor. After theoperations, all the patients were followed up in the clinics within6to18months. They were given another VAS and ODI scores by theprior doctor when they were followed up in the clinics.Twoindependent samples of t-test was used in comparing and analyzingthe two groups of patients before and after operations.Results:1、Two independent samples of t-test was used in comparingthe blood loss of the two groups, the open group388.3±102.2ml,theminimally invasive group195.6±95.2ml, p<0.01.There was asignificant difference between the two groups. 2、Two independent samples of t-test was used in comparing the lengthof cut, the open group9.4±0.7cm, the minimally invasive group4.5±0.5cm, p<0.01.There was a significant difference between the twogroups.3、Two independent samples of t-test was used in comparing thepostoperative bedrid time, the open group30.5±3.5days,theminimally invasive group13.5±2.0days, p<0.01.There was asignificant difference between the two groups.4、Two independent samples of t-test was used in comparing theoperating time, the open group103.7±34.8minutes, the minimallyinvasive group144.2±31.5minutes, p<0.01.There was asignificant difference between the two groups.5、Two independent samples of t-test is used in comparing X-rayedtimes during the perioperation, the open group5.5±1.4times, theminimally invasive group10.4±2.9times, p<0.01.There was asignificant difference between the two groups.6、VAS and ODI scores of two groups were given by the same doctorbefore and after operation. Two independent samples of t-test wasused in comparing VAS and ODI scores before operation. It showedp>0.05.So there was no significant difference between the twogroups when they before operations. After the operation, other VASand ODI scores were given to everyone when they followed up. We stillused two independent samples of t-test in comparing VAS and ODIscores of the two groups. The VAS scores of1、3、14days and1monthlater showed p<0.05,3months later showed p>0.05.The ODI scoresof14days and1month showed p<0.05,3months later showed p>0.05.The datas above prompted that the shot-term postoperative pain ofthe minimally invasive group was lighter, while there was no significant difference between the two groups in relieving nerveroot pressure, pain in waist and lower extremities and neuralsymptoms.Analysis by synthesis, there was no significant differencebetween the two groups in the curative effect three months laterafter the operations. In aspect of the the blood loss, length of cut, postoperative bedrid time and the shot-term postoperative pain, theminimally invasive group was better, while the traditional opensurgery group was better in the operating time and the X-rayed timesduring the perioperation. Conclusion: Both MASTTMQUADRANTTMexpanding minimally invasive tubeand the traditional open surgery in curing the single segment lumbarspondylolisthesis within I-II degree could effectively relievenerve root pressure, pain in waist and lower extremities and neuralsymptoms. MASTTMQUADRANTTMexpanding minimally invasive tube hasadvantages in the blood loss, length of cut, postoperative bedridtime and the shot-term postoperative pain, but has the disadvantagesof more operating time and X-rayed times during the perioperation.
