| Objective To study four properties and five flavors based prescription compatibility theory and its application for cold pathogen based on "When cold pathogen is excessive in the internal, sweet and hot ingredients can be used to treat it as principal ingredients, bitter and pungent ingredients can be used as adjuvants, salty ingredients can be used to reduce strength, pungent ingredients can be used to lubricate and bitter ingredients can be used to reinforce." from Yellow Emperor’s Canon of Internal MedicineMethods①To study the prescription compatibility theory of "When cold pathogen is excessive in the internal" through literature research and clarifying related concepts and questions.②To select several representative prescriptions in treating cold pathogen and then analyze and compare them with the prescription compatibility rule based on "When cold pathogen is excessive in the internal".Results Through the analysis of Sinitang, Lizhongtang, Zhenwutang and Xiaojianzhongtang etc, we found the composition of these famous prescriptions is largely in accordance with the above mentioned compatibility rule. Conclusion Four properties and five flavors based prescription compatibility theory from the Yellow Emperor’s Canon of Internal Medicine is probably originated from the Yunqi theory, therefore tends to fall under the philosophical realm. However, through this study, we found that its compatibility rule for cold pathogen is in accordance with experience from clinical practice. In addition, since it is originated from the Yellow Emperor’s Canon of Internal Medicine, it can be combined with TCM theory organically and show its advantages in the ease of applicability and therefore is very meaningful in guiding the prescription in TCM’s day to day clinical practice and worthy of more attention and further study. |
