Objective Through investigation of the traditional Chinese medical constitutions of patients with Hypertension in communities, discuss the features and correlation of traditional Chinese Medical Constitutions with hypertension, thereby actualize the transformation of disease-oriented group medicine into individual-oriented individualized medicine. Methods Questionnaire research method is employed in this paper, and the constitutions of patients with hypertension were identified based on the131patients of hypertension registered in Miaodong Community, Yuhang District from May2010to Jan.2012, including63male and68female therein. The patient cases were strictly selected in accordance with the standard and to the exclusion criteria. Their traditional Chinese medical constitutions were assessed and relevant interventions were proceeded as per their constitutions with guidance from the perspectives of diets, living, physical exercise, and emotion regulation etc..Results④Distribution characteristics of traditional Chinese medical constitutions of patients with hypertension in communities:the majority are balanced yin-yang constitutions, and the major unbalanced yin-yang constitutions are those with constitution of qi asthenia which occupies the highest proportion (14.5%), followed by constitution of yang asthenia(9.16%).⑤Correlation between the traditional Chinese medical constitutions of patients with hypertension in communities and the influential factors:As ages increase, the proportions of constitutions of qi and yang asthenia and blood stasis in unbalanced yin-yang constitutions are increasing; female balanced yin-yang constitutions of female are apparently less male; and female constitutions of yang asthenia, blood stasis and qi stagnation are significantly higher than male. Among the patients with unbalanced yin-yang constitutions, the obesity hypertension group is typically represented by constitutions with blood stasis(12.50%), and overweight hypertension group represented by constitutions of qi asthenia (14.75%), while the proportion of constitutions of blood stasis and phlegm-dampnessin abdominal adiposity group is significantly higher than those in non-abdominal adiposity group, yet the later group shows higher proportion of constitutions of yang asthenia than the former. As the course of disease extends, the proportion of balanced yin-yang constitutions decreases and qi-asthenia constitutions increases clearly. In the patient group with family history, the proportions of constitutions of phlegm-dampness and qi stagnation are significantly higher than the group with no family history.⑥Mixed constitutions of hypertension patients in communities:17patients displayed mixed constitutions and the major constitution combinations include:qi asthenia plus yang asthenia, qi asthenia plus qi stagnation, qi asthenia plus yin asthenia. Conclusions Patients with Hypertension in communities can be easily affected with qi asthenia constitution which take greater impact on hypertension that constitutions of yang asthenia and phlegm-dampness, qi asthenia is an important pathological basis for the occurrence of hypertension. Constitutions of blood stagnation may be correlated with old ages, female, obesity and long disease courses. Yang asthenia can be more easily occurred to female patients or patients with no obesity or long disease course. Constitution of phlegm-dampness is related to obesity, hypertension and family history. Constitutions of qi stagnation are more frequent among female and also related to family history. Constitutions of yin asthenia can be found among patients with balanced constitutions and hypertension. As ages and disease courses increase, hypertension patients may display multiple constitutions with one in a dominant position, resulting in diversity and co-existence of multiple constitutions.
