| Objective:Compare pretherapy and post-treatment of a comprehensive approach of traditional Chinese medicine to treat acute ankle sprains which combined Chinese herbs of external application with elastic bandage external fixation, by observing the degree of pain, pressing pain, tumidness, dysfunction and ecchymosis before and after treatment separately. Thus to, summarize a significantly effective therapeutic regimen which is easy to operate.Method:From September2011to December2012,57patients with acute ankle sprains were collected clinically. All of them were unilateral ankle sprains; varus sprained52cases, extroversion type in5cases. Included24males and33females, aged from16to64years, an average of40years. By the single blind method, all the cases were randomly divided into three groups, including external application of Chinese medicine combined with the elastic bandage external fixation group (Group A), the elastic bandage fixation external group (Group B) and external application of Chinese medicine group (Group C). Referenced the diagnostic criteria of acute soft tissue injuries from "Chinese traditional medicine new drug clinical research guiding principle" which set by the State Administration of TCM in2002, we set the rating score standards of acute ankle sprains. And evaluated the degree of pain, pressing pain, tumidness, dysfunction and ecchymosis before and after treatment separately on the third day,2weeks and1month by these standards, analyze the curative effect between the three groups.Result:Follow-ups of24.5days (range,10-35days) on average of57cases in this group showed that three groups of overall effective rate were100%.20cases in Group A, and completed20cases; the total symptoms points before treatment were (23.30+4.118) averaged,(2.50+1.103) averaged at the last follow-up, the healing rate was60%.17cases in Group B, and completed17cases; the total symptoms points before treatment were (22.47±3.430) averaged,(4.24±2.473) averaged at the last follow-up, the healing rate was17.6%.20cases in Group C, and completed20cases; the total symptoms points before treatment were (21.20±3.750) averaged,(4.60±3.378) averaged at the last follow-up, the healing rate was15%. Treatment of external application of Chinese medicine combined with the elastic bandage external fixation group (Group A) is superior to the other groups both on pain relieve and improvement on ankle joint function whether on the length of treatment time or the overall effect. External application of Chinese medicine is superior to the elastic bandage fixation external group (Group B) on fading bruise, but not as good as group B on ankle joint function recovery. There is no significant difference among the three groups on relieving pressing pain and tumidness. After4weeks treatment, Group A is superior to Group B and C both on cure rate and overall effect, there is no significant difference between group B and C. The three groups did not occur adverse reactions. Conclusion:Chinese herbs of external application has very significant curative effect which has the function of activating blood and removing stasis, detumescence and analgesic, combined with the elastic bandage external fixation.
