Objective:1. Describe the status quo of male nurse’ turnover intention.2. Discuss the relationship among male nurses’ turnover intention, nursing practicalenvironment and occupational commitment; analyze the influencing factors of malenurses’ turnover intention.3. Analyze the main reasons of male nurses’ turnover intention through interviews.Methods:1. Quantitative study: use cluster sampling; research109male nurses from threesecond-level hospitals and seven third-level hospitals of five cities in Anhui province;distribute questionnaires to male nurses. Questionnaires including:①questionnaire ofgeneral demography materials;②turnover intention scale;③the nursing practicalenvironment scale;④questionnaire for occupational commitment. Use SPSS17.0forstatistical description, t test, one-way ANOVA analysis; relative analysis and stepwisemultiple regression analysis.2. Qualitative study: use purposive sampling and convenience sampling; usesemi-structured interview outline to interview male nurses from three hospitals’ choose12samples according to principle of saturation; record, sort, analyze and extract themain reasons of male nurses’ turnover intention.Results:1. The total point of male nurses’ turnover intention is16.23±3.18; the point for eachdimension is: turnover intentionⅠ5.23±1.47; turnover intentionⅡ5.06±1.48; turnoverintention Ⅲ5.94±1.06. Male nurses with high-level turnover intention occupy70.64%of the total number that has been researched.2. The total point of nursing practical environment is87.44±10.32; the point ofoccupational commitment is72.19±13.843. The result of one-way ANOVA analysis will be reflected on age, ages of nursing, status of marriage, education background, title, level of hospital, service pattern anddepartment. The variance of male nurses’ turnover intention has statistical significance(P<0.05). 4. Negative correlation has been found among male nurses’ practical environment, occupational commitment and turnover intention(P<0.01).5. The result of stepwise multiple regression analysis shows that the influencing factorsof turnover intention Ⅰ include age, nursing practical environment and occupationalcommitment. All these three factors can explain38.1%of the total variation. Theinfluencing factors of turnover intension Ⅱ include status of marriage and level ofhospital. Both factors can explain20.4%of the total variation. The influencing factorsof turnover intention Ⅲinclude age, nursing practical environment and occupationalcommitment. All these three factors can explain24.9%of the total variation.6. The themes of male nurses’ turnover intension can be extracted from the result ofsemi-structural interview, including traditional concept, professional concept, workingpressure, interpersonal relationship and the turnover of colleagues.Conclusion:1. The following factors have different level of influence over male nurses’ turnoverintention: age, ages of nursing; status marriage; education background, title, level ofhospital, service pattern and department.2. Age, nursing practical environment and occupational commitment are the mainfactors for male nurses’ turnover intention.3. Semi-structural interview shows that social support, professional concept, workingpressure interpersonal relationship and the turnover of colleagues are the maininfluencing factors of male nurses’ turnover intension.
