Objective: To explore the association between the KCNE1gene G38Spolymorphism and KCNE4gene T1057G and atrial fibrillation in Uygur and Hanpopulations. Methods:The genetic DNA was extracted from488atrial fibrillationpatients(237Uygur and251Han)and488controls (237Uygur and251Han). TheKCNE1G38S and KCNE4E145D Genotype and frequency were determined using PCRrestriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). Results: The KCNE1gene G38Sgenotype and allele frequency,In the Han population,there was no statistical differencebetween atrial fibrillation group and control group(χ~2=1.174, P=0.556; χ~2=0.005, P=0.946). After adjustment of confounding variable such as coronary arterial disease,hypertension,diabetes mellitus,smoking and alcoholic,the results showed that theKCNE1G38S was not statistically different between patients and conrols using logisticregression analysis(P=0.698).In the Uygur population, the KCNE1gene G38Sgenotype and allele frequency has a statistical diffenerce between atrial fibrillation groupand control group (χ~2=8.018, P=0.018; χ~2=8.740, P=0.003). Logistic regressionanalysis revealed a statistical difference in KCNE1G38S between patients and conrols(OR=1.634,95%CI:1.192-2.240, P=0.002). The KCNE4gene E145D genotype andallele frequency, in the Uygur population, has a statistical diffenerce between atrialfibrillation group and control group (χ~2=6.374, P=0.041; χ~2=5.942, P=0.015). Afteradjustment of confounding variable such as coronary arterial disease, hypertension,diabetes mellitus,smoking and alcoholic,Logistic regression analysis revealed a statisticaldifference in KCNE4gene E145D between patients and conrols (OR=1.636,95%CI:1.173-2.281,P=0.004).In the Han population,there was statistical difference between atrial fibrillation group and control group in KCNE4gene E145D genotype and allelefrequency(χ~2=6.892, P=0.032; χ~2=6.133, P=0.013).Logistic regression analysisshowed that the KCNE4gene E145D was statistically different between patients andconrols (OR=1.491,95%CI:1.076-2.065, P=0.016). Conclusion: The resultssuggested that KCNE1G38S was not associated with atrial fibrillation in the Hanpopulation; in the Uygur population,the KCNE1G38S was one of the independent riskfactors for atrial fibrillation.The KCNE4gene E145D was associated with atrialfibrillation in both the Uygur population and the Han population.The KCNE4gene E145Dwas one of the independent risk factors for atrial fibrillationin the Uygur population andHan population.
