Objective: To explore the relationship between blood pressure variability (BPV) andankle-brachial arterial pulse wave velocity(baPWV) in patients with essential hypertension.Methods: Four hundred and eight patients with essential hypertension from January2008to June2011, recorded of age, body mass index (BMI), fast blood glucose (FBG),triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL–C),low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL–C),24h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring(24hABPM) and inspection of baPWV, were divided into baPWV normal response(n=116) and baPWV increased response (n=292) according to baPWV. BPV werereflected in each patient by24hABPM. The correlation between BPV and baPWV usingsingle-factor linear correlation analysis, multiple linear stepwise regression analysis of theimpact factor of baPWV. Results: Patients with the baPWV increased responseexhibited higher age, day systolic blood pressure standard deviation(dSBP–SD) and24hours systolic blood pressure weighted standard deviation(24hSBPwSD) compared withthose with the normal response (P<0.05). Single-factor linear correlation analysis showedthat various time intervals (24hours, day and night) systolic blood pressure standarddeviation,24hSBPwSD and baPWV showed a positive correlation (P<0.05). Multiplelinear regression analysis showed that age, nighttime systolic blood pressure standarddeviation(nSBP–SD) were associated independently with baPWV. Conclusion: baPWVincreased response exhibited higher age, dSBP–SD and24hSBPwSD compared with thosewith the normal response. The various time intervals (24hours, day and night) systolicblood pressure standard deviation,24hSBPwSD and baPWV showed a positive correlation.Age, nSBP–SD were associated independently with baPWV.
