Objectives To explore the relationship between pulse wave velocity( PWV), blood pressure, ambulatory blood pressure and cardiovascular risk factors in patients with essential hypertension. Methods 252 hypertensives who had hospitalized during 2006-2007 year were choosed, The level of their blood pressure were measured and ambulatory blood pressure monitered, all patient were measured brachial- ankle PWV by using automatic pulse wave velocity measurement system and their high and weight.Their blood serum lipid and plasma glucose were detected in the blood of peripheral vein. Results 1.There were significant differences of baPWVs and fasting blood glucose(FBG) between grade 1 and grade 3 hypertensives(P<0.05), 2 hour plasma glucose(2hPG) were highest in grade 3 hypertensives(P<0.05). 2. baPWV was positively and significantly correlated with 24h mean systolic blood pressure(SBP), 24h mean pulse pressure(PP), daytime systolic blood pressure, daytime pulse pressure, daytime and nighttime load of systolic blood pressure. (all P<0.05) 3. In the group of abnormal baPWV, the lever of age, systolic blood pressure, diastolic pressure, triglycerides (TG) were higher than control group. 4. baPWV was positively and significantly correlated with age, systolic blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, 2 hour plasma glucose(2hPG)((all P<0.05), age and fasting blood glucose are risk factors of baPWV. Conclusions The degree of arterial stiffness was increased significantly in grade 3 hypertensive. The baPWV increased significantly in hypertensive patients with cardiovascular risk factor. baPWV was positively and significantly correlated with 24h mean systolic blood pressure(SBP), 24h mean pulse pressure(PP), daytime systolic blood pressure, daytime pulse pressure, daytime and nighttime load of systolic blood pressure. age, fasting blood glucose were risk factors of baPWV..
