Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of percutaneous lumbar discectomy versuspercutaneous laser disc decompression treatment of lumbar disc herniation. Methods:Clinical randomized trials were identified from specialized trials registered in CochraneBack Group, the Cochrane library, additional electronic database including Medline,Embase and CBM, reference list of articles, we searched some Chinese Journalsmanually, and also contacted manufacturers and researchers in the field. The randomizedand controlled trials of percutaneous lumbar discectomy versus percutaneous laser discdecompression were collected. The included trials were screened out strictly based on thecriterion of inclusion and exclusion. The quality of included trials was evaluated. Datawere extracted by two reviewers independently. RevMan5.0was used for data analysis.Result: Five studies involving447patients were included. There were225patients withpercutaneous lumbar discectomy and222patients with percutaneous laser discdecompression. The results of Meta-analysis indicated that no difference with regard tothe efficient rat, excellent rat, complication rat and reoperation rat were noted. Conclusions: Both percutaneous lumbar discectomy and percutaneous laser discdecompression are effective treatment for LDH. There is no significant different in theefficient rat, excellent rat, complication rat and reoperation rat.
