| Objective: Umbilical moxibustion with herbal medicine and drug therapy wereselected to observe the different influences on the clinical symptoms and the QOL ofpatients with IBS of spleen deficiency type, and the scores of two groups were alsocompared to the norm of China.Methods:100patients with IBS of spleen deficiency type were selected and dividedrandomly into two groups,50in each group. The scores of gastrointestinal symptoms,spleen deficiency symptoms and QOL were observed before treatment, during treatmentperiod and the follow-up period.Results: There were statistical differences on times of defecation of the scores ofgastrointestinal symptoms between the two groups. And there were statistical differenceson abdominal distention and fullness of the scores of spleen deficiency symptoms.In thecomparison of different periods, the treatment group maintained good curative effects,while in the control group there were differences on stools and total score ofgastrointestinal symptoms between treatment period and the follow-up period, whichshowed rebound.After treatment, there were differences between RP, BP (bodily pain), GH(generalhealth), VT, SF(social functioning), RE(role limitation due to emotional problems), exceptMH(mental health) in the treating group and between GH, VT, SF, RE, MH in the controlgroup except RP, BP. The QOL of patients with IBS were lower than the norm ofChina.After treatment,there were no differences between the RP(role limitation due tophysical problems) and VT(vitality) of the treating group and the norm of China, andbetween the VT(vitality) of the control group and the norm of China. In the comparison of the two groups, there were statistical difference on BP in the after-treatment period andsignificant statistical differences on BP and RP in the follow-up period.And the treatinggroup had advantages in eliminating BP(bodily pain) compared to the control group.Conclusion: Both groups could eliminate the clinical symptoms and improve the QOL of thepatients, while the umbilical moxibustion with herbal medicine group had better effects in thetreatment period and the follow-up period. |
