Objective: Herbal-separated moxibustion navel therapy, farina-separated moxibustionnavel therapy and oral medicine therapy with pinaverium bromide were selected to observethe curative effects on gastrointestinal symptoms and spleen deficiency syndromes onpatients with IBS. By comparing the curative effects among them, we tried to value thethree therapies objectively.Methods:75patients with IBS of spleen deficiency type were divided into threegroups randomly with25patients each. We observed the scores of gastrointestinalsymptoms and spleen deficiency syndromes of pretherapy, during-treatment period andfollow-up period, and compared the curative effects among the three groups. Results: The three therpies were all effective to IBS. And it was more significant withthe herbal-separated moxibustion and farina-separated moxibustion navel therapy. Bycomparing the scores of both the symptoms and the syndromes of the three groups, wecould see that there is significant difference between moxibustion navel therapy and oralmedicine therapy with pinaverium bromide on diarrhea, distension and abdominalpain(P<0.01). It was more effective for the herbal-separated moxibustion navel therapytreating distension, abdominal pain, stuffiness and inappetency, etc, than thefarina-separated moxibustion navel therapy(P<0.05). There was significant difference between herbal-separated moxibustion navel therapy and oral medicine therapy withpinaverium bromide at the fellow-up period. Conclusion: All of the three therapies were curative to IBS of spleen deficiency type.It was better using moxibustion navel therapy than oral medicine therapy with pinaveriumbromide, especially in the fellow-up period. And the herbal-separated moxibustion naveltherapy was superior to the farina-separated moxibustion navel therapy.
