Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to investigate senior nursing students’ mentalhealth situation and in what degree do the colleges carry out mental health education to them.Also analyze the reasons and put forward the corresponding mode of education, to offer validtemplates of mental health education for colleges.Method: This research used random sampling method of senior nursing students’ andteachers’ questionnaire to survey at Changchun University of Chinese Medicine, JilinUniversity, Beihua University, Yanbian University, collected data of564cases of students,76cases of teachers. The tool employed a survey on University Personality Inventory (UPI),mental symptom checklist90(SCL-90) and homemade teacher questionnaire. Data wereanalyzed using the SPSS17.0application software, using descriptive analysis, chi-square testand other statistical methods for data analysis.Results: The first two categories of psychological barriers of senior nursing students incollege respectively25.18%,10.99%. About their mental health level, those who recognizetheir psychological teachers better than not recognize, willing to accept the psychologicalcounseling are better than that unwilling to accept, do not consider that nursing students’psychological problems are more than other professional are better than the opposite students,the differences are statistically significant (P <0.05). Compared with the national norm, the5factor scores of somatization, compulsion, depression, anxiety, psychotic are higher, thedifferences are statistically significant (P <0.05). Every factor scores of SCL-90are lowerthan the national youth norm, the differences are statistically significant (P <0.05). The5factor scores of senior nursing students’ interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety,compulsion, hostility have a higher positive rate (>3%). Nursing teacher holding the nationalcounselor certificate only account for13.16%. The curriculum of mental health education incollege is lacking. The students’ healthy psychological training has not been given dueattention. It is lack of nursing teachers in cultivating students’ devotion to their professional.Conclusions: Senior nursing students and teachers should raise the awareness of theimportance of mental health education in college; strengthen the power of the contingent ofnursing teachers, to offer better services for mental health education of senior nursing students. We should develop a new effective way of nursing mental health education, give full play tothe role of mental health files and network consulting; parents and colleges should attachimportance to a well atmosphere of students’ psychological health education. We also shouldpromote the scientific research of senior nursing students’ mental health education, in order toprovide reference to training nursing talents.
