Objective:This study is to investigate the clinical observations of Jichuan Jian treatment, taken from Jing Yue Quan Shu, for treating senile functional constipation with kidney deficiency through32elderly FC cases; to further understand the clinical efficiency of present use of the former dose of the prescriptions; meanwhile to explore the feasibility and effectiveness of Jichuan Jian treatment for curing senile functional constipation. Methods:This study selects32cases from the Wuhan Army General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Region, including15males and17females, ages between64-89. Randomly formed are group A of16people with7men,9women; and group B of16with8men and8were female. The above two sets of data meet the screening criteria. Genders and ages of the two groups of patients are roughly the same by statistical analysis. In other words, the difference is not statistically significant (P>0.05) and they are comparable. Under the condition of complying with the Diagnostic Criteria for constipation and Roma III Diagnostic Criteria for functional constipation, promulgated by the Chinese Medicines Board in June1994; and excluding patients with digestive tract organic changes, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular accidents, and endocrine dysfunction. Group A is given decoction by the Jichuan Jian treatment for15days; group B is given lactulose (20ml/3/day) for15days, or until symptoms are relieved. Through the curative effect of clinical observation, to determine patient outcomes in clinical diagnostic efficacy standards under the TCM Syndrome. Results:The clinical observation shows that11patients of group A, taking the Jichuan Jian treatment, are cured;4patients are in remission, while it is ineffective for the other3cases.8cases of Group B are cured,5patients are in remission, and the other3cases are invalid. The cure rate of group A is68.75%, remission rate is93.75%, and failure rate is6.25%whi le the cure rate for group B is50%, remi ss ion rate is81.25%, and failure rate is18.75%. Clinic finds that the top three TCM syndromes, accounted by large number of senile functional constipation patients, are intestinal gas stagnation, the Yin intestinal dryness and the weak spleen type. Within the11patients cured from group A,3of them have recurred. After stopping taking medication for2to3days, the8patients cured in group B have all suffered difficulty during excretion, and they need to continue medication to maintain. Only3patients from both group A and B are completely cured after complying with doctor’s prescription, and nothing unusual has occurred after2months.Conclusion:Jichuan Jian treatment has an obvious advantage in completely healing simple functional constipation over lactulose. Currently, the few cases we have obtained show that Jichuan Jian treatment also exhibits an advantage over lactulose in relieving senile functional constipation. As the present experimental results shows, that the former does of the prescription of Jichuan Jian treatment could be used to used for curing senile functional constipation. With respect to the current experimental results of elderly constipation, rehabilitation exhibits a great significance for the radical cure of senile functional constipation treatment.
