Purpose:To understand the behavioral factors of childhood obesity, to explore temperament characteristics and its related factors of the obese children, to provide a reference for the obese children’s physical and mental health education and family education.Method:A random cluster sampling was conducted in two primary schools of grade three to six in Yuelu District. All the subjects we choose are in accordance with the obesity diagnostic criteria, a1:1paired research was carried out using the normal children of the same school, same class, same gender, same height (±3cm), and same age (±4months).256generally questionnaires and children’s temperament test questionnaires were distributed to the subjects and among them238were answered and valid. Descriptive statistical analysis, t-test, x2test, Wilcoxon rank sum test, logistic regression analysis, correlation analysis and other statistical methods were used to analyze the results.Result:1. The single factor analysis of school-age obesity children showed that pre-school raising history, obesity parents, snack reward, children’s average TV watching hours, children eating fast (≀10minutes) and so on are related to obesity of children.2. In terms of temperament type distribution, easy-close type and plain type were consolidated into easy type (Group E), tired-close type, slow launched type and trouble type were merged into difficult type (Group D). In the control easy type children accounted for73.9%and difficult type accounted for26.1%; while in the experiment easy type accounted for33.6%and difficult type accounted for66.4%. The difference is statistically significant (x2-37.222, P<0.01) and the proportion of difficult type in the experiment group is significantly higher than the control group. Results of temperament scores compared in experiment group and control group indicate that the experiment group are higher in the predictability, aversion, response strength, adaptability and persistence; while levels of activity, mood, distractibility, response threshold are lower than the control group.3. Several factors that affect the temperament dimensions of school age obese children are mainly as following: (i) activity-related factors:maternal education degree, way of parental education.(ii) predictability-related factors:parenting attitude.(iii) adaptability-related factors:pre-school raising history, parents’ marital relationship, parenting attitude.(iv) mood-related factors:pre-school raising history, family structure, parenting attitude.(v) distraction-related factors:family structure, parenting style.(vi) persistence-related factors:parents’marital relationship, parenting attitude.(vii) reaction intensity-related factors:maternal education degree. Conclusion:(i)An inappropriate behavioral factors and family factors are the important cause of obesity in children of school age.(ii)The proportion of support-difficult temperament children was significantly higher in experiment group; Temperament dimensions of the obese children are significantly different with normal children in the level of activity, aversion, adaptability, persistence, distraction and reaction threshold aspects.(iii)Temperament dimensions of school-age obese children are related with pre-school raising history, family structure, maternal education degree, parents’marital relationship, way of parenting education, parenting attitude and so on.
