ObjectiveThrough comparing warming needle therapy at the’Neck Three-Point Needling’with electro-acupuncture therapy, observe the changes of clinical symptoms and signs of the patients with the cervical spondilopathy of vertebral artery (CSA), evaluate the therapeutic effect of warming needle therapy at the’Neck Three-Point Needling’, quantify the location, angle and depth of needling and the quantity of cones, standardize the operations, discuses the application of warming needle therapy at the’Neck Three-Point Needling’ for treatment of CSA.Methods57cases with cervical spondilopathy which were diagnosed cervical spondilopathy of vertebral artery in western medicine and upward blocking of turbid phlegm syndrome and qi and blood deficiency syndrome in TCM were from the Acupuncture and Moxibustion Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from May2010to March2011. According to the inclusion criteria and exclusion standard, all the cases were distributed randomly to treat group (29cases) and control group (28cases).’Neck Three-Point Needling’including Tianzhu(BL10), Bailao(EX-HN14) and Dazhu(BL11), Baihui(DU20), Fengchi(GB20), Touwei(ST8), Taiyang(EX-HN5), Xuanzhong(GB39) on both sides were selected in both groups. In treat group, warming needle therapy at the’Neck Three-Point Needling’ was the primary method. After getting sensation, connected the two output wires of the electro-acupuncture stimulator with the neck three points needle handles, selected the sparse-dense wave, and then gradually amplified the output current to2. Then the needle handles of the neck three-points were coated with one section of a moxa roll about1.5cm in length to be burned, using one more roll after the moxa completely burned out. The needle handles gone through the paper with a hole in the middle. Let the paper close to the skin and fix with adhesive tape. The other points inserted routinely. In the control group, all cases were applied with the electro-acupuncture at the ’Neck Three-Point Needling’. The needles in neck three-needle points were inserted perpendicularly. After getting sensation, connected the two output wires of the electro-acupuncture stimulator with the neck three points needle handles, selected the continuous wave, and then gradually amplified the output current to2. The operating method in the resting points was the same as that in the treat group. All the needles were retained for30minutes. All the cases were treated once a day,6times as a therapeutic session, one day as an interval between2sessions,2sessions in total. Before and after treatment, Evaluation Scale for Cervical Vertigo (ESCV) and Clinical Assessment Scale for Cervical Spondylosis (CASCS) were adopted for the assessment of clinical signs and symptoms of CSA. After the treatment, the therapeutic effect criterion of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine in1994was adopted for the assessment of clinical efficacy of CSA. All the data was analyzed with SPSS19.0.ResultsAfter treatment, ESCV scores were all obviously increased in both groups (P<0.01). There was a significant difference in statistics in clinical evaluation of CSA between two groups after treatment (P<0.01), in which the result in treat group was superior to that in control group. The total clinical effective rate was96.55%and89.29%in treat group and control group respectively, showing superiority of the former to the latter (P<0.05).ConclusionFor improving clinical symptoms and function, both warming needle therapy and electro-acupuncture therapy at the ’Neck Three-Point Needling’ have got favorable results. Comparing the two methods, the therapeutic effect of warming needle therapy at the ’Neck Three-Point Needling’ is better than electro-acupuncture therapy at the ’Neck Three-Point Needling’...
