BackgroundEssential hypertension (EH) is a quite common cardiovascular disease for the old.It’s the main dangerous fact lead to stroke, coronary heart disease, congestive heart failure. It’s with high rates of accurence, death and disability. A sum of clinical researches show that it’s very important to low down the blood pressure as it can cut down the damage to aim organs, and can accurently reduce the rates of accurence, death and disability. Therapy to reduce blood pressure is safe and the old can benefit a lot from this. So, it’s very important to reduce blood pressure when it is higher than normal. Western medicine is the main therapy to hypertension, however, TCM has low participation rate in hypertension therapy. Currently, western medicine can not meet the demand of clinic therapy for hypertension. We should look for a new therapy which is much more direct and effective.The balance needle treatment is a new treatment method with qualities "simple, effective, cheap, safe". The new treatment receive good healing efficacy in many kinds of clinical diseases. Clinical researches show that the balance needle treatment can low down blood press in emergency. It’s very urgent for doctors to seek a simply operated and quick work method to reduce blood pressure to guide the clinic.ObjectiveTo find out the TCM syndromes which are suitable to balance needle treatment in reducing the blood pressure, and to guide the use of treatment method in EH treating in clinic.MethodsAll cases came from patients who were in accordance with the diagnosis of EH, take records of basic conditions, TCM symptoms,signs of tongue and pulse,the blood pressure immediately,15mins,30mins,60mins,120mins later after the treatment. Setting up statistical data with the statistical software of SPSS18.0, and then analysising the records of blood pressure before and after treatment, and fingding out the distributiong rule of TCM symdromes with crosstabs and Qi-square methods.ResultsThe effective fates in immediatley,15mins later,30mins later,60mins later and 120min later after treatment were:31.40%,40.70%,47.67%,61.63%; There were differences between different effective groups in TCM symptoms such as face look, the whole body, head, ears and eyes, chest, pulse. According to the appearent frenquence of corralative TCM symptoms in30mins later between different effective groups, there came the reslut:dizziness, headache, hypopsia, soreness and weakness of waist and knees, palms and soles or aversion to cold, cold extremities, deep pulse, pulsus parvus, small pulse, soft pulse appeared frequently in the noneffective treatment group; diziness, alliteration, tinnitus, heaviness of the body, deep pulse, wiry pulse soft pulse appeared frequently in effective treatment. The syndromes deficiency syndrome of both YIN and YANG and type of deficiency of YIN leading to hyper activity of YANG were not suitable to balance needle treatment; Syndromes of overabundant liver-fire and Abundant Phlegm-dampness by Resolving Phlegm were suitable to balance needle treatment.ConelusionIn clinic, syndrome of overabundant liver-fire and Abundant Phlegm-dampness by Resolving Phlegm were suitable to balance needle treatment. The balance needle treatmeent has facilities of easy to operat, quick work, safety and be in effect, it can cooperate with complementary western therapy in EH treatment. This result can be used to guide the clinical doctors to choose balance needle treatment to treat EH.It is worth promoting in clinic.
