Rheumatoid arthritis is a kind of autoimmune disease which is characterized withchronic, symmetry, destructive and synovitis of multiple joints.Purpose: To observe the correlation between the platelet count, mean platelet volumeand RA disease activity. Methods: Determining the PLT count and MPV of117RA patients with BECKMAN750blood cell analyzer. Determining the erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactiveprotein of those patients simultaneously, and measure the DAS28score. Dividing thesedata collected into different groups according to the gender, disease course of the patientsand different treatment taking by. Analyzing the correlation between the platelet count,MPV and ESR, CRP, DAS28. Comparing the data of these items after treatment with theinitial ones.Results:①PLT count is in positive correlation with ESR, CRP and DAS28respectively(r=0.558,r=0.409,r=0.376,p<0.01). MPV is in negative correlation with ESR,CRP and DAS28respectively(r=-0.571,r=-0.306,r=-0.329,p<0.01).②The PLT countof RA patients in both gender is in positive correlation with ESR and CRPrespectively(Male: r=0.609,r=0.410,p<0.01; Female: r=0.578,r=0.404,p<0.01). MPVof RA patients in both gender is in negative correlation with ESR and CRP(Male:r=-0.602,r=-0.307,p=<0.01; Female: r=-0.583,r=-0.302,p<0.01).③All those RApatients in this study no matter their disease courses are above one year or not, their PLTcount is in positive correlation with ESR and CRP(No more than one year: r=0.533,r=0.23,p<0.01; More than one year: r=0.615,r=0.357,p<0.01). Their MPV is innegative correlation with ESR and CRP(No more than one year: r=-0.684,r=-0.326,p<0.01; More than one year: r=-0.485,r=-0.275,p<0.01). However, the influences of genderand disease course imposed on PLT count and MPV are not obvious.④Differenttreatments have a great impact on the patients’ PLT count: Especially when patients choseto use biologics together with MTX, PLT count can reduce in only one week(t=2.186,p=0.032<0.05). The effect of biologics only is much better than that of MTXonly(t=2.829,p=0.007<0.01). In the RA patients with PLT count increasing together with MPV decreasing, their ESR and CRP are much higher than those not((t=11.864,p=0.000;t=6.024,p=0.000).Conclusions: Both PLT count and MPV can be used as index of RA disease activity.PLT count increasing along with MPV decreasing implies that RA is of high diseaseactivity.
