As an staple and forage crop, oat is rich in nutrients and with high value in medical andhealthy, therefore oat plays important roles in the crop production and animal husbandry inthe cool region of arid and semi-arid areas of China. But it is weak in the basic research ofoat, and the improvement of oat is lag in technology and can not meet the requirement of oatproduction. So introducing elit oat germplasm from overseas and breeding novel varieties iswith great importance for the improvement of oat cultivars in China. In this study, the adaptability of28oat varieties introduced from Canada was evaluatedthrough comparing with two Chinese cultivars of Baiyan7and Keyan1and sowing indifferent dates in Yangling, Shaanxi; then the yield traits of26oat varieties were comparedwith Baiyan7as the check. The main results were as followed:(1) The analysis on the adaptability of28oat germplasm introduced from Canadaindicated that all these oat germplasm could reach their mature stage at the three sowing datesin Yangling, Shaanxi. It suggested that the adaptability of the oat germplasm introduced fromCanada was better. There were plenty of variations observed in the agronomic traits of growthperiod, plant height, flag leaf area, thousand kernel weight among those oat germplasm, itmight provide some reference for the proper use of thosegermplasm. In general, the highestyield was observed in late autumn sowing, which did not differ significantly with the normalautumn sowing, but the yield of autumn sowing was significantly higher than that of springsowing. This result suggested late-autumn sowing would be beneficial for oat production inYangling, Shaanxi.(2) The yield trials of the26oat germplasm introduced from Canada in Yanglingindicated that the yield range of these oat germplasm was2625.05-6416.7kg/hm~2withaverage of4839.84kg/hm~2. Among those oat germplasm introduced, the yield of Dancer,Manotick, Wanic could reach more than6000kg/hm~2; the yield of Ultima、Qo.685.48, Canoe,Shadow, OA1046-3, Exacter, Sherwood, CFA0036F and RoGustalso was over5000kg/hm~2;comparied with Baiyan7, the yield was improved to some extent, which with shorter plantheight and better resistance to lodging; more tillers per individuals and better populationadaptability, as higher thousand kernel weight as well. Therefore those germplasm presentedbetter production while sowing at late autumn in Ynagling, and could be further tested.
