After projects of upgrading rural power grids and promotion of a table police, thenumber of energy meter increased rapidly with a wide distribution scope. Traditionalmanual meter recording way had some weaknesses, such as the high labor costs,artificial operation errors, etc. It already can not adapt to the electric power systemreform and the requirements of modern meter reading. With the rapid development ofcomputer technology and electronic communication technology, remote meter readingtechnology is the development trend of future meter reading industry.The remote automatic meter reading system is storage, calculation and chargingmeasuring system that without human intervention, it can establish communicationlinks between remote data center client and data collection terminal. The data centercan collect electrical consumption data in real time and monitor user’s electricitysupply. With the advantage of improving the copy speed, heightening real-time abilityand preventing electricity-stolen, it provided the basic data for power system toenhance management level.In this study, the design of embedded remote meter reading system based onARM microprocessor is composed of remote data center, data collection terminal andelectric energy meter. The aim of this article is mainly to design hardware andsoftware of the data collection terminal. Specific research contents are as follows:(1) Clear the purpose and significance of study of remote meter reading system,Understand the research status at home and abroad.(2) Describe a variety of upward communication and downlink communicationsin details. Compare the different ways of communication modes inapplication satiation, communication distance, and data transfer rate, etc. Inthis study, RS-485bus is used as downward communication to read watt-hourmeter’s power consumption, and Ethernet is used as upward communicationto interact data with remote data center.(3) Design data collection terminal hardware platform. Based on S3C2440microprocessor, extend peripheral hardware, such as the Flash memory chip, SDRAM memory chip, system power supply module, RS-232serial bus andRS-485bus interface, network interfaces, etc.(4) Put up data collection terminal software platform. Establish cross compileenvironment, cut and graft U-Boot and the Linux kernel. The Linux kernelhas built-in TCP/IP protocol stack to make convenient to developmentnetwork communication. Though RS-485bus to transmit data, it follows theDLT-645protocol. The upper network communication through a socket toestablish a reliable TCP connection, to record remote meter’s electricityconsumption and remote correction time, etc.Remote meter reading system based on32-bit ARM microprocessor has highperformance of data processing, strong ability in anti-disturb, effectively completingupward/downward communication. With high reliability and stability, it is the trendof the meter reading system in the future.
