The Research On Landscape Application Of Model Hedgerow

As a basic form of regular planting, model hedgerow has a very long history in the west garden architecture, in which a great proficiency in its application and expression has been achieved. However, since model hedgerow is a foreign import for China and was introduced not long ago, there are at present still some problems in its practical applications. This thesis investigates and analyses the plant species, plant texture, height, color and application ways of model hedgerow, in attempt tolay a theoretical foundation for its concrete applications.The application of model hedgerow in China is far from ideal. Common problems are a blind pursuit of lines and space division function without careful consideration of its texture, height, color, application ways and their coordination with each other. The thesis will firstly explain the concept and fundamental theories of model hedgerow referring to its application, define its range of study and analyses the concrete application of in model hedgerow gardens these fundamental theories. Secondly, the thesis will explain six considerations when choosing model hedgerow plant, namely fast germination, fast reproduction as well as high survival rate, slow growth, dense foliage, low branching point and sustainability of landscape, illustrate the characteristics of model hedgerow plants in view of their leaves, flowers, fragrances and thorns and their unique ornamental values and list commonly used plant species in various kinds of model hedgerow. Moreover, the thesis is to clarify the criterions in determining the textures of model hedgerow plants, according to which the various plants are divided into three types in the tenderness of texture and used in different garden landscapes, and their combinations with each other. Last but not the least, the thesis is to stress the major principles in the application of model hedgerow in gardens, namely adjustability to local conditions, biodiversity and garden aesthetics. According to their height, plants are divided into low, medium, high and ultra-high plants; according to their shape into natural style and pruned style, and according to their functions in application in gardens into sight guidance, barrier, background, traffic regulation and creation of atmosphere. On the basis of functional division, the thesis will illustrate with examples in real scenes the application of model hedgerow as well as their combinations with bushes and trees, hard pavement and garden ornaments.Model hedgerow is of value not only as an ordinary way of planting, but also because of its expressions of space and connotations of gardens through its patterns and forms. This thesis expounds and analyses the range of study, classification and ways of application of model hedgerow, which provides a feasible project and research materials for its application in gardens.
