| Along with the rapid economic development and lots of urban construction, revival of the historic district is a trend. However, academic community find there are some difficult problems during the revival construction, such as blanking of regional characteristics, historical context cut and the slippage of spiritual connotation. In this regard, the author puzzles about why the revival historic districts are similar to each other? Why they are easy to follow the styles and appearance glorious? How can we inherit the history sense, special recognition, acceptance of the historic district when the origin view continues? What can we do to conserve its regional and spiritual connotation?After reading the Genius Loci theory and its related application, the author gets the inspiration and supposes that:Can the Genius Loci theory be introduced into the revival of the historic district? What kind of values will be brought if Genius Loci is introduced into revival of the historic district? Therefore, the author puts forward the following questions:1.Do the contemporary revival historic districts lack Genius Loci?2. What is the meaning of Genius Loci theory in architecture?3.What is the relationship between Genius Loci theory and revival of historic districts?4.Which elements can express Genius Loci?5.How to make the Genius Loci of the historic districts save and continue?Based on those questions, this paper is divided into five parts:Chapter I elaborates the origin of research, research objects and related concepts. It also proposes five key questions and describes the research methods, objectives and outlines the framework of research.For the revival historic district, from the phenomena of similar style, seeing objects without people, loss of origin life, full of fake antiques and no dwelling acceptance, Chapter II analyzes that why our country’s revival historic districts are lack of Genius Loci.Chapter III elaborates the related theory of Genius loci and revival of historic districts. It also read the core connotation of Genius loci theory, which pays attention to space and characteristics in outer world and direction-sense and acceptance in spiritual world. At the same time, chapter Ⅲ quests the enlightenment on Genius loci theory for revival of historic districts from four points.Chapter Ⅳ analyzes the formation, preservation and expansion of genius loci in historic districts. It also proposes three elements of Genius Loci in historic district, which are background element, substance element and charm element. Besides, this chapter describes the relationship among these three elements.Chapter Ⅴ analyzes the revival Jinggang ancient town with elements model of Genius loci. In this chapter the author suggests three points on how to save and continue Genius loci in the revival of historic districts, which are keeping the origin scene, recovering origin life and being in line with sustainable development strategy.The author looks forward to the research can enlighten architects, planners and urban managers and have some direct guidance to the people, who live in the historic districts, to maintain and enhance Genius loci in revival of historic districts. |
