With the recovery of the world economy and its rapid development, the containerthroughput of the world is increasing year after year. For China, whether each coastalbig container wharf, or the terminal loading and unloading containers in the inland river,the throughput of the container is increasing too. For the upper reaches of the YangtzeRiver, the changes of the hydrography, the river dredging and the economicdevelopment promote the development of container transport of the upper reaches of theYangtze River.It is in this background, each city around the upper reaches of the Yangtze Riverbegins to set up their own container loading dock, or alter the existing multipurposedock, to adapt to the rapid development of container transport. But at present, thenumber of the terminals loading and unloading containers on the upper Yangtze river isnumerous, the forms of handling technology are varied and immature, so it still at theexploration and adaptive stage. What we urgently need to know the existing terminal ismeet the needs of the handling container or not, to make sure how to transform theexisting piers meet the needs, and to understand how to select the handling technologyfor the new terminal.It is based on that, through the research to the handling technology of the terminalswhich is handling container around the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, this articleanalyzes the current situation of container handling technology around the upperreaches of the Yangtze River. Then select five typical different containers handlingtechnology, and use AHP-Grey Relation Analytic Process method to have a comparativeanalysis. And finally explore the scientific and reasonable container handlingtechnology which is suitable for the hydrological and geographical conditions of theupper reaches of the Yangtze River, and to guide the building dock and the selection ofcontainer handling technology scientifically and rationally, and to provide somereference and help for the terminal production organization of the port enterprises.
