Handling technology is the foundation of harbor production and marks the advancement of harbor technology. Along with the vigorous development of container terminal, the harbor faces more and more severe pressure from both the management and competition. To reduce the cost and enhance the efficiency of loading and unloading of the cargo become the pressing question of each harbor. At the same time, the superintendent of the harbor comes to realize that the determination of the handling technology is the crux to enhance efficiency and reduce cost. Therefore, how to strengthen the research of the transformational design of the container terminal's handling technology becomes extremely necessary. To achieve the biggest output by smallest investment through reasonable disposition of loading and unloading machinery, thereby improving the competitive of the harbor itself and guaranteeing the full display of the function of the harbor.In this article, the author starts from introducing the national economy development of the Pearl River Delta area. The center economy development promotes the rapid growth of the container transportation, which brings about severe challenge to the handling capacity of the harbor at present; at the second part, in the light of the national economy situation of Pearl River Delta area, the author carries on investigation on the present container handling capacity of Huangpu Stevedoring Company by gray system analysis. At the third part, project study out. On the ground of analyzing and comparing the five kinds of prevailing handling technology projects, using AHP law (Analytic Hierarchy Process), the author picks out the best one for HuangpuStevedoring Company; at the fourth part, according to the best project, on predicting the handling capacity in 2010, the author figures out the scale of the port and transforms the design of the original handling project by calculating berth capacity, dump site capacity, dump site mechanical energy, the quantity of the level transport machinery ( container truck)and the machinery operator number. So that it can meet the demand of the growing handling capacity. Finally, the author put forward some measures and suggestion of the constructive adjustment for Huangpu Stevedoring Company.
