This study is a Sub-topic for the science and technology research of culturalheritage protection “Research on the Managing and Display System of ArchitecturalHeritage Information”. As the basis for the work of digitalizing the system of heritageinformation management, this paper aims to explore the method for building up theearly ancient Chinese buildings with Building Information Modeling (BIM)technology on the platform of information management on wooden structural heritagebuildings. In this paper we selected several existing wooden structural buildings withdifferent structural forms as the objects of study. Based on that, some investigationand exploration had been made on the thought and method for building upinformation models with the BIM basis, as well as attemptable analysis and setting upof the BIM family of their architectural components. The study, based on the demandfor management of the heritage information, with a viewing angle of architecturalresearchers, made the extraction of technical terms with both architectural heritageinformation value and architectural typological meaning, the definition of typeconcepts, and the theoretical analysis of typology. With the practice operated on thesoftware of Revit Architecture, which helped to gain the feedback material at firsthand, we could proceed exploring for the inner demand on the developing stage ofcomputer programs based on heritage information platform, providing examples asreferences for the follow-up research and development on the topic, to furtherpromote the research process of management and display system of architecturalheritage information.
