The hump shunting, related with shunting equipment, technical conditions ofwagons, method of shunting operation, employee competency, environment and otherfactor, become more and more important and difficult for safety control ofmarshalling station. This text studying on the automatic hump shunting operationbriefly introduced composing of hump operation system, automatic route controlsystem, automatic speed control system of the pushing off wagons and process ofhump shunting operation. According to the daily operation and previous accidentanalysis, the weak links of hump shunting operation was found out. Then the fishbonediagram and countermeasures to prevent humping wagons crash was drawn based onpreliminary analysis by use of cause&effect analysis. Fault tree analysis (FTA)method was applied to analyze wagons crash accident. In accordance with operatingprocedures, investigation of all kinds of factors and cause events concerned inaccident, the fault tree taking wagons crash as top event was constructed, startingfrom the top event to find all the direct cause step by step with deducting until thebasic causes of the accident.Hump shunting operation is “human-machine-environment” system which amajority of accidents due to negligence were the result of human error. It is necessaryto analysis human reliability during the research of hump shunting operating safety.On the basis of FTA,the paper analyzed tasks of hump shunting operation bycognitive reliability and error analysis method, ensured the level of commonperformance condition factor(CPC) according to the context. Then in the light ofsynthetically level of CPC factor,the cognitive control pattern was confirmed.Cognitive behavior,basic cognitive functions,the cognitive failure model that wouldmost probably occur and cognitive failure probability were identified. According tothe logic of the activity in the affair, cognitive failure probability during humpshunting task was predicted.Finally,through qualitatively and quantitatively studying, started from the majorfactors of production in hump shunting operation, such as the environment, personnel, equipment, management, etc, the paper put forward measures from systematic angleto prevent and control the shunting accident which need to further strengthen orimprove.
