As a major way for blind children to receive education in China, particular schools forthe blind are taking a very important part in those special teaching institutions. For advanceddevelopment of disabilities’ education, giving blind children an equal right of studying, whichwould help them to live a better life, it is necessary to build a sound and healthy educationenvironment for schools serving for the blind.In China, there are lots of schools for the blind having established for a long time, while,lack of sustainable planning, organized spaces and superior facilities, they fall far behindmodern related educational institutions. Moreover, contemporary teaching system andconcept are calling for different functions in the schools, so that those old constructions mustbe reformed or even out of the times. In short, a revolution of schools for the blind is inimperative need.For campus planning and architecture design, caring about the disability of blindchildren, schools for the blind are quite different from general educational institutions.Because of its special characteristics, also considered as a critical section of educationsystem, it is useful and meaningful to study on the design of this particular architecture styleBased on field researches, comprehensive analysis and reference materials, studying onthe factors that make influence on architecture design and campus planning of the school forthe blind, this essay attempts to find out an architecture prototype for further design orreformation.Made up of six chapters, this essay could be divided into three parts.Part I is Chapter1, which tells background, object of study and methods for research.Part II includes Chapter2and Chapter3. Chapter2introduces the history of schools forthe blind, with elements affecting its design, while materials from field research and typicalexamples are shown in Chapter3.Part III, consisting of Chapter4, Chapter5and Chapter6, plays a very important role inthis essay. On the strength of the first three chapters, this part probes into planning and designof school for the blind. In particular, Chapter4analyses the planning rules, and functionzones discussed in Chapter5, with, at last, Chapter6referring to space nodes and details.
