In recent years, with development of tunnel engineering in water conservancy and hydropower urban transport, in the future, applications of full face rock tunnel boring machine will be increasingly high proportion. It’s a safe, rapid, and environment protection, accelerating the development of full face rock tunnel boring machine will have a great significance. However, China can’t own production, can only cooperation with foreign coMPanies. Cutter head and cutter technology is the core technology of TBM, cutter repair, replacement of the time consumption and the cost of the cutter take a large proportion of the whole project, this relates to the TBM can be completed the construction tasks smoothly and efficient. Therefore, it is essential to research and analysis the disc cutter.Through a survey, failure modes of disc cutters mainly include cutter ring wear, cutter ring failure, oil leakage due to failure of sea, drop of retaining ring and looseness of bolt. The main factors of disc cutters failure are geological factors, structural factors cutter, cutter factors, construction control factors, and engineering factors. Analysis the failure modes and factors, some Methods are proposed to improve the life of the disc cutters. Including the right of the cutters check, the right changecutters, shorten working hours and reduce cutter change props consumption, the establishment of a scientificcutters management system and construction control and management.The process of breaking rock of disc cutter has a very complex physical phenomena and mechanical characteristics, experimental and theoretical study has significant limitations. The analysis of force and motion for disc cutter were carried by using ABAQUS to study the stress distribution and concentration of stress in disc cutter and rocks. Analysis of the results of cutting Granit by disc cutters, when the depth of cut is greater than 0.765mm, rock under the cutter appears a similar semi-circular cross-section of the rock breaking area, as the indentation depth increased, the compressive stress increases, the average vertical force is 21.42kN, the average tangential force is 2.48kN. Analysis of the results of cutting sandstone by disc cutters, when the depth of cut is greater than 0.62mm, rock under the cutter appears a similar Trapezoidal cross-section of the rock breaking area, as the indentation depth increased, the compressive stress increases, the average vertical force is 11.85kN, the average tangential force is 1.58kN. Tangential force is about one-tenth of the vertical force.Developing test machine is effective means to master the key technology of TBM. This paper presents an experiment platform. It can simulation the cutter breaking rock, rolling rock on the disc cutters for rapid test. In this paper, the overall test machine design ideas and design process are introduced, through finite element analysis, we got stress distribution, strain diagram, the safety factor graph, and the results are in line with the design requirements. Important components on the table system and cutters system are also analys by finite element analysis; the results meet the design requirements.
