In the history of American environmental movement, the1970s are termed "Environmental Decade" or "Green Decade", it’s the first peak of American modern environmental movement. Through the efforts of collecting and analyzing related English materials, combining with domestic research achievements, it is possible to maximize the depict of1970s’ American environmental movement.First of all, this paper traces the ideological foundations of1970s’ American environmental movement in order of time. Then, it analyzes the major environmental problems of1970s that the United States faced. Began with1970’s "Earth Day", the American environmental movement of1970s swept across all the fields of American society like an "Environmental Revolution", such as politics, economy, culture and so on. With characteristics differ from former American environmental movement,1970s’ has made great achievements of hitherto unknown, and had significant impact on the American and even the global environmental cause. But, it is not perfect, it remains spaces for improvement.
