A Sociological Reaserch On The Problem Of Ground Collapse Caused By Coal Mining

With China’s industrialization, the environmental issue in rural area is increasingly ac-ute. The existing research, from the perspective of environment justice, uncovers imp-acts by industrial pollution on rural environment. However, these researches focus m-ore on water pollution, less on environment deterioration caused by coal mining.Many researches on the problem of ground collapse in Jining exist in natural science, but not social science. The thesis displays connection between rural problems and industriali-zation through sociological research on the problem of ground collapse in Jining.Spe-cifically, the thesis should take it as a base to understand the situation and distribution of environment issue resulted from coal mining in Jining.The thesis,through literature review, found that the environment issue caused by coal mining has become more ser-ious since2000. Rural areas witnesses more problems and farmers have to pay the co-st of coal mining. Although relevant regulations prescribe that people who are impact-ed by coal mining should be compensated, the surveys find that the compensation me-chanism failed to work effectively. Farmers are faced many problems concerning coal mining,even compensation mechanism.By analysing compensation standards,the thes-is figures out that people impacted by coal mining can not get sufficient compensation required.Such a deficiency is closely linked to the role of standard-makers in the proc- ess of industrialization. By analysing compensation process and redistribution of com-pensation payments in rural areas, the thesis finds that compensation mechanism base-d on The Land Administration Law of People’s Republic of China failed to take it into consideration regional and local background as well as norms governing rural society. As a result, it could lead to dysfunction of compensation mechanism, finally, causing agrarian discontent.So through the whole process of Jining’s environmental problem,peasants have suffered environmental injustice.
