The water supply network is one of the city’s important critical infrastructures. It concerns the urban residents’ life and urban industrial development. It is the lifeline of maintaining the normal production, city life and a variety of social activities. Because of buried underground, the water supply pipeline is invisible, pipelines is laying crisscross underground and complicated in structure.It is difficult to manage pipelines. With the accelerated process of urban modernization, the water supply network scale is more and more big, the management of it is more and more complex. The traditional manual management mode is inefficiency and not suited to the requirements of water supply enterprise to serve the community and business management. Therefore, establishing a scientific, accurate, complete, dynamic city water supply network information management system and increasing the work efficiency and management level of enterprises has become the important task of the many water enterprises.This paper aims at the current status quo of urban pipe network information management and the problems existing in the construction of the system, combines with the characteristics and needs of the city water supply system, analysises the construction method of city water supply network information management system, studies organization and storage of spatial data in the system development process, the key technologies of network analysis, profile analysis and implementation methods, proposes the solution of establishing the city water supply network information management system based on GIS technology, uses.NET programming language to develop the water supply network geographic information system based on the theory research.The system uses the current mainstream ArcGIS software as GIS technology platform. Spatial data and attribute data store in relational database Oracle lOg to manage. Spatial data engine ArcSDE which provides by ArcGIS as middleware to rapid storage and retrieval of spatial data and attribute data. The system uses a combination of Browser/Server and Client/Server architecture, so data management and sharing is convenient. The system includes both file management, map browsing, terrain editing, web publishing, system management, and other basic functions of the GIS system and editor of the pipe network, pipe network inquires and statistics, network analysis, map printouts, data management, and other network management professional functions. Pipe network editor realizes the edit of the network data, including pipe and affiliated equipments’s data adding, attribute data’s modification and the data’s deletion.Pipe network inquires and statistics realizes the pipe and equipment according to the material, diameter and other conditions for the inquiry and statistics, the results provides the basis for the daily management of network. Pipe network analysis function mainly includes booster analysis, closing valves analysis, crosssection analysis, profile analysis, etc, these functions can assist the managers to deal with pipe explosion emergencies such as booster in time. The built of the system will provide water supply enterprises a powerful tool to manage and maintain complex water supply pipe network data and assist the design and construction of the pipe network. It can make the management effectively deal with fault in the operation of pipeline network and improve the working efficiency of the water supply enterprises, thus it provides better services for urban residents.
